@billbennett it's a @KarlBode term, so you have to ask him. but I believe you're close. I think (but am not sure) that the context is management/finance types who'd rather be seen out at brunch then doing any hard actual journalism work.
@BachToTheFuture@mmasnick.bsky.social to use the bridge, you just need to follow the bridgy account on the platform your on. It's as simple as following anyone else.
@billOfEarth42@mmasnick.bsky.social Not only is he not in control, he was never in control, made it clear he totally disagreed with the direction of the operation before it even launched, shut down his account nearly a year ago, quit the board, and publicly trashed bluesky in an interview last month.
@marcprecipice@mmasnick.bsky.social doesn't look like I can see them directly right now. I'm checking from my Mastodon account as well, but I don't get notified of them either here or there afaict
@AbyssalRook i mean, assuming you mean PDS, there are a ton. Don't know who's keeping track, but I know plenty of people who are self-hosting their own PDSs.
@lewdmachines@mmasnick.bsky.social a reasonable concern. they are a PBC, but that's still a "C". But, they do seem to be building in full protections to prevent against enshittification by enabling exits, and the ability to interact with AT Proto without having to use Bsky itself.
Also, I do believe they have a few fairly reasonable, non-shitty, monetization plans in mind.
@grtyvr@mmasnick.bsky.social your too late. already getting a bunch of nonsense from people who falsely think Bluesky is a centralized service controlled by Jack Dorsey.
Soooo, while I still spend time here on Mastodon, I'm spending more time these days on Bluesky. But, with Bridgy Fed, there is now a bridge of my posts on Bluesky that can appear here as well, for folks interested in hearing me blather on over there...
Techdirt guy. I once wrote a paper about "Protocols, not Platforms" that seems to be slightly relevant. Also can follow my Bluesky posts at @mmasnick.bsky.social
