Maybe warning labels are not the solution but Facebook and Meta definitely are behind Instagram’s algorithm that is behind the posts show up on my child’s feed.
Luckily your son missed this era of social media, but it has had an affect on millions.

@jaytorres That's the whole point of this story! Whether the US should require cigarette-style warning labels. Not whether social media for kids ought to be limited by parents.

@gruber I’ll admit that when I heard Haidt promoting his book, it resonated with me. Maybe its confirmation bias. Then I remember I grew up during the violence in video games debate and it was definitely not video games that caused many school shootings. I’ll have to reconsider my stance on this.

@mmasnick @jaytorres Haidt's arguments resonate because they ring very truthy. But truthiness isn't evidence. I'd say the same was true of previous "think of the kids!" scares, too. It makes some intuitive sense that playing video games -- especially violent ones -- might make kids violent. But our intuitions often lead us wrong.
