@evan @stefan If connecting people safely is important, this still begs the question —why Meta, of all companies.

It would be like inviting Lockheed Martin to sponsor Woodstock.

@evan @stefan Then let us be a rounding error.

Many of us are on the fediverse because we want absolutely nothing to do with Meta or any of its metastases.

Their involvement in SWF is a line that should never be crossed. The same goes for X.

@joeo10 @becomingwisest The unaffected firmware has been available for months. Worth upgrading for the first extra capacity anyway, but mine are thankfully unaffected —not that I plan to leave them lying around.

Ok, here's the deal on the "YubiKey cloning attack" stuff: :eyes_opposite: Yes, a way to recover private keys from #YubiKey 5 has been found by researchers. But the attack *requires*: 👉 *physically opening the YubiKey enclosure* 👉 physical access to the YubiKey *while it is authenticating* 👉 non-trivial electronics lab equipment I cannot stress this enough: ✨ In basically every possible scenario you are safer using a YubiKey or a similar device, than not using one. ✨ #InfoSec #YubiKey5

@becomingwisest @joeo10 Yup, it also requires the user to be really careless with their key around someone capable of fabricating a clone, whilst also handing that person their password. A bit of a storm in a teacup and they’re still safer than not using one.

Currently watching the #Nickelback documentary on Netflix.

I never understood the hate. It was similar to Phil Collins and Bryan Adams back in the day. They got some chart success so everyone wanted to drag them down.

Probably says more about people than it does about Nickelback.

@BeAware @lonelyowl @verge In this context, Google Gemini should be nowhere near anyone who actually 'needs' AI. Not everyone has the wherewithal to know the AI cannot be relied upon for anything.

If Gemini were a sat nav, many drivers would find themselves in the sea.

@MediaActivist The only apology required here is for once again putting a camera and microphone anywhere near Nigel ‘we have fascism at home’ Farage’s face.

Apparently they learned nothing from the Brexit disaster.

Happy new year, good people of Mastodon.

I hope 2024 is a little less weird for everyone.
