Wisconsin's governor had seven union members killed during what is now referred to as the Bay View Massacre. Thankfully the vast majority of people (some 14,000) went on to live beyond the strike.

Okay Mastodon, can we STOP reverting hashtag text to all lowercase? People capitalize different characters for important accessibility reasons. Until we address the protocol issue here, we hurt people across the fediverse - disabled and not. I can’t recommend this platform for news, social media, etc.

Okay #LibreOffice, a huge number of people have tables with headers that they just want to be able to sort in different ways. I've been trying to figure this out for like 20 minutes now. WHY make it so hard???

Anyone else finding that they have to complete like 4+ iterations of the image CAPCHA lately? (E.g. click each square that contains a crosswalk.)
I recently experienced one that made me - no joke - keep going after 10 times. It wasn't worth it so I had to walk away.
Am I misunderstanding the assignment? Next time I will try to see what the little (i) button has to say

Hey all, I have an older computer that I want to try switching from Windows to Linux. What do you think? Privacy and security are important to me, so I'm not keen to just rely on a PCMag article that says to download certain things. Ubuntu versus Mint? Not an IT person here....

@OrionKidder @nanianmichaels @Endof10 thanks. For now, there aren’t any particular apps that I need to run. If necessary then I can fall back onto Windows, I guess. Mainly, I’m not that into computers but just want it to work well. Would be open to learning some new IT-related skill if it’s truly useful for a good job, tho. It would be great if I could help others with this stuff down the road

Language learners, do you use Mango Languages? I have what could be an interesting question. For Spanish in particular, I’ve noticed what sounds like incorrect audio. Audio for,
“Permítame su abrigo,”
puts emphasis on ME. (Unfortunately it looks like Ice Cubes or something Mastodon-related is keeping me from attaching an audio recording.)
Is Mango wrong here, or is there something I can learn about #Spanish pronunciation? Computer-generated audio? I will see if I can find the A..

Yikes - from Austin, TX, to Los Angeles, to places across 🇺🇸 , protest against the vigilante violence continues. Every ICE "agent" is a coward that brings shame on their community through harmful disruption of our lives. We've seen it.
Now the people are standing up because we don't accept kidnapping here. We WILL NOT.
Thank you to everybody putting yourself out here with boldness. If local law enforcement wants to defend ICE, I hope for all our sake you wake up and get a spine soon.

Given that ICE "agents" have been hiding in unmarked vehicles and covering their faces as they go around kidnapping people, I fully support folks using great force to stop them. Not that I'm recommending or suggesting it, but the reaction makes sense. Self-defense.

The goons should be scared. Also, this is a job that *no one* has to do, so any fear on their behalf will not suffice as justification for how poorly they treat people. They have zero right to kidnap or take away due process.

New England friends, I wonder which towns and cities are taking the #climate crisis seriously. Your thought(s)? We have seen more extreme weather already (#remember Leominster), and b4 this we knew that burning fossil fuels would make our atmosphere warmer, less stable, so I hope we're seeing real momentum in the way of adaptation and mitigation. Who among us is listening to indigenous voices? #SomervilleMA comes to mind for their transportation and pro-Palestinian work, but let's hear more!

@benroyce yeah I saw this earlier today. Can the people impeach their senator? This guy is beyond toast. I guess time will tell if Iowans stand up for America, but this is a good sign.
