One of my biggest wishes for New England this year is more bollards. A driver needs to know that any dangerous or illegal behavior could easily fuck them up. Replace random flex posts with a real bollard. Let’s thoughtfully work to free ourselves from car dependency 🌅

Do we know if Linux plans to deal with the keyboard problem soon? This is a big issue. (And I’m not running some obscure distro, but Linux Mint.)
Right now a user has to go into the keyboard app EVERY TIME they start up the machine, and modify settings, before getting to work. Why can’t we have a default keyboard layout? This is a big deal because English cannot be assumed in 2026….

Alright fellow Spanish students do you know of a physical book of verbs that I could carry around with me? No way I’m lugging around Barron’s 501…

It is definitely a great book to have but also heavy af. Like I’m interested in the 25-50 most common, useful verbs. Conjugation and idioms.

While we’re on verbs, you might check out this app called Spanish Pro. It costs like two bucks.

I will follow up here if I find a book to recommend. Please let us know what you think

Okay so I am excited to find a copy of this book by Olly Richards: 101 Essential Spanish Verbs
because I like Olly’s other work.

And Maria Rosario Hollis (Teach Yourself) has “Essential Spanish Verbs” that covers two hundred.

I have a feeling these books aren’t quite as portable as I’m looking for but who knowszzzz

Okay Mastodon, can we STOP reverting hashtag text to all lowercase? People capitalize different characters for important accessibility reasons. Until we address the protocol issue here, we hurt people across the fediverse - disabled and not. I can’t recommend this platform for news, social media, etc.

Okay #LibreOffice, a huge number of people have tables with headers that they just want to be able to sort in different ways. I've been trying to figure this out for like 20 minutes now. WHY make it so hard???

I recently experienced one that made me - no joke - keep going after 10 times. It wasn't worth it so I had to walk away.

Hey all, I have an older computer that I want to try switching from Windows to Linux. What do you think? Privacy and security are important to me, so I'm not keen to just rely on a PCMag article that says to download certain things. Ubuntu versus Mint? Not an IT person here....

@OrionKidder @nanianmichaels @Endof10 thanks. For now, there aren’t any particular apps that I need to run. If necessary then I can fall back onto Windows, I guess. Mainly, I’m not that into computers but just want it to work well. Would be open to learning some new IT-related skill if it’s truly useful for a good job, tho. It would be great if I could help others with this stuff down the road

Language learners, do you use Mango Languages? I have what could be an interesting question. For Spanish in particular, I’ve noticed what sounds like incorrect audio. Audio for,
“Permítame su abrigo,”
puts emphasis on ME. (Unfortunately it looks like Ice Cubes or something Mastodon-related is keeping me from attaching an audio recording.)
Is Mango wrong here, or is there something I can learn about #Spanish pronunciation? Computer-generated audio? I will see if I can find the A..
