@YoWatShiinaEsq Yes! The first time I had to teach my マンガ文化論 course in English, I thought, "How hard can it be?" But it turned out to be quite hard, and I ended up leaving out some things and adding some other things. My first lectures definitely sounded "translated."

I think the day is not far off when someone blocks me for politely asking them to include descriptions when they post images.

@quintessence For visually impaired users, the first screenshot is Musk saying Twitter will be shutting down a bunch of what he calls “micro services,” because he says most are unnecessary. The next screenshot is a user saying, “Hey, don’t log out of Twitter today because they shut down 2-factor authentication and you won’t be able to log back in.” I guess Musk thinks 2-factor authentication is useless.

@shardsofblue Something about "awareness" campaigns puts me off. They seem so wishy washy. And when I hear "awareness," I immediately think of that big, famous organization that spends all its energy suing people who use pink ribbons without their permission.

It's scary how harassment on the bird site has made me paranoid about "virality." I see my posts gots lots of boosts and instead of feeling pleased, I have a vague sense of dread. I even just wondered, "Should I delete all my older toots?" Twitter Trauma.

@yilinwriter On the other hand, publishers of any kind (digital or print) in North America don't think any work that can be digitzed deserves proper compensation. Gotta cut those costs so the execs can buy another yacht!

@22 Aztec codices have been on the radar of comics scholars for quite some time. I would love for Dr. Lopez to do straight-up translations. It would be wonderful if she and maybe Mr. Collver could find some way to do so in a way that preserves the look and feel of the original, yet isn't just text printed below the images. I want her to translate the Nuttall Codex, which is actually a saga, unlike the Borgia Codex she examines here.

@tylerzonia @KarenWyld Yes, and social media (YouTube in particular) are filled with algoriths that work to spread bigotry of all kinds.

@yilinwriter In Japan, too, famous authors have often been famous translators. I wonder if North Americans undervalue translation because most have never seriously tried to learn a second language, so they think translation is a simple mechanical process.

@wombatarama @Bigbreakfast_Irl What I found when I decided to step away in April was that the site has been poising my soul. The problem wasn’t Musk or Trump. The problem was the algorithm. It’s addictive, and like so many addictive things, it’s really, really bad for you. It made me an unpleasant and unhappy, stressed out person. So even if Musk were to disappear and the company became “effective” again, I would never go back. Ditto for Facebook and Instagram.

@shardsofblue I actually often wish some people would think about us a lot less. The kind of people who wake up and think, “The world is full of transgender people who I have not yet made miserable, and I must amend that.”
