I am looking for more folks to review The Lantern and the Night Moths. Could you please all help me spread the word? Thank you so much.
And please do get in touch if you want to write a review. Thanks so much everyone who have left reviews on social media and goodreads as well.
i'm a little frustrated by even having to say this but i have seen at least 5 "asian heritage month" reading lists in the last few days, and not one of them have a single book of translated poetry on them. believe it or not, there are actually asian translators...
I made a Classical Chinese Poetry Bingo to help people recognize the common tropes and motifs.🤣 These show up frequently in the modern poetry I translate as well. Do you recognize anything from your readings or from pop culture? Tag yourself. I'm "feeling sad on a boat" lol

I have created a webpage that documents all my receipts and provides a detailed timeline of the events related to the British Museum's use of my translations of Chinese feminist Qiu Jin's poetry without permission, credit, or pay earlier this year.
Please spread it widely to help me combat gaslighting and disinformation. Please always point folks to this webpage when discussing the incident.

hey folks, as you may know, I donated half of my settlement funds with the British Museum to create two poetry workshops for BIPOC/racialized translators.
The one for translating Sinophone poetry is now open. It's taught by the amazing Chenxin Jiang!
Please take a look and also spread the word to anyone who may be interested.

Does anyone know of any research on bilingualism/multilingualism which discusses language acquisition that didn't happen simultaneously or sequentially, but involved switching back and forth between the languages? Also studies on people who experienced both L1 and L2 attrition?

hmmm an anonymous account gave my book that is not even finished yet and won't be out until April 2024 1 star on goodreads... is there a way to mark it as a vicious spam attack??
my book is not available in any form because it's still being worked on. this is so ridiculous wtf
@taiyo I agree that being a good writer is the most important. However, "good" is very loaded, and cultural knowledge and understanding are just as important as language skills
@taiyo thank you! I am not sure if you heard but unfortunately the British Museum recently stole my translations of Chinese feminist poet Qiu Jin (秋瑾)and used them without permission, credit, or pay in an exhibit over a month.
I think on the SFF sides he managed to do a lot and it has really helped but there is a long history of white people dominating the field for many decades. Also many editors don't know Chinese and then they randomly edit and cut and change things and it makes it very poor quality.
@taiyo unfortunately, yes, very much so :/ and there are definitely some POC who are amazing but they are often overlooked
oh no, it's only the second day of #WomenInTranslationMonth #WITMonth but already there is at least one list of recommended translations where there is ONE single token woman writer translated from Chinese and of course it is always by a White translator
can white people please not come into my replies to whitesplain how they "don't see race"
Seeing some posts floating around equating not following/supporting/reading books by white folks to racism. WTF ?
I just ordered over 20 rare photos from a second hand bookstore in Chongqing when getting some new Chinese books. The photos were taken by university students around 2000-2002 right before the Three Gorges Dam was built and attempted to document old buildings and sites along the Yangtze that were important to Chinese history, folklore, and cultural traditions and would soon disappear underwater.

I am super delighted to announce that I have signed a contract with Invisible Publishing for my debut book translation project, featuring modern and contemporary Chinese poetry in translation, forthcoming in spring 2024.
@Rachel_Thorn reminds me of the nonsense that execs uttered at the PRH and S&S merger trial lol
@Rachel_Thorn yeah I wonder about the same thing. I don't think people here appreciate translation the same way and there is much less focus on language learning than elsewhere.
It's so interesting that people treat writers and translators so differently in North America.
Many of the modern #Chinese poets that I translate were #translators in their own right. Dai Wangshu translated literature from French into Chinese and Qiu Jin once translated a Japanese textbook for training nurses into Chinese. I can probably think of other examples.
Translation has always been valued as an important art.
