I think one thing many people mourning Twitter don't realize is how much damage the app has done to them psychologically. And I don't even mean trolls and abuse. I mean the addiction factor, the weird thrill of having their rage buttons pushed all day and late into the night. The preoccupation with likes and retweets. I don't think they yet realize how much they've been manipulated by The Algorithm. Perhaps, like me, they'll see more clearly once the fog of that addiction has cleared.

Michael Gerson is dead at age 58. I disagreed with most of his positions throughout my life, and he shared responsibility for Bush’s invasion of Iraq, but he was always so damned sincere and utterly free of the mean-spiritedness that defines today’s GOP. A month or two ago, I shared a column of his in which he confessed to an epiphany that the GOP had long been genuinely racist. On our way home after saying goodbye to our respective besties. (My daughter’s bestie’s mommy is my bestie.) We had such a great time. Without this time with my friend once a week, my stress levels would be way higher. ?

Ack! I am allowing myself to become Twitterized by the latest wave of immigrants. I need to stop posting negative stuff that serves no positive use. Gonna delete a few recent whiny toots.

Thursdays are my favorite day of the week. I have no classes. My daughter is at school. The few meetings I have on Thursday are usually Zoom, so I don't have to leave my house. I can catch up on things, take a nap, even indulge in some television. But the best part is spending two hours with my best friend, drinking craft beer, while our daughters are in their after-school math program. Those two hours recharge me for another week of work and childcare.

Filtering "RT @" has made my timeline much more Mastodonian.
