I'm kind of in awe of the fact that a famous left-of-center Japanese politician not only came to Mastodon, but actually chose a very small instance that does not tolerate bigotry and harassment.

Maybe it's just the folks I follow, but I see a lot of toots about very technical aspects of Mastodon/Fediverse on my timeline. Can you imagine Twitter programmers sharing details like this? Most of it goes over my head, by it's reassuring to know that a diverse bunch of people are passionately trying to solve Mastodon's problems and make this place safer and easier to use. Thanks to you all.

I struggle to understand white people who sincerely seem to believe they are not racist, yet who jump into the mentions of People of Color to try to argue with them about the racism those people encounter on Mastodon. Why would you do that? Why do you think you're qualified to tell them what is and isn't racist? How do you expect the conversation to go? Why not boost those voices instead? Why not try to learn more (without nagging PoC for "proof")? What not ask, "What can I do to help?"

I do not mean should be asking People of Color on here what you can do to do help. It's not their job to try to think of something for you to do. Study the problem, look at what's being talked about and tried. Talk to your instance's administrator. Don't make more emotional labor for someone who is already experiencing stress on this app.

Thanks to all for the replies. I can see why many of you don't want to leave. I just hope you're all keeping in mind that Musk has shown himself to be very Trumpian, in the sense that there is no line he won't cross. He is granting amnesty to Nazis who he clearly wants to "sic on" people just like you. Meanwhile, he willy-nilly bans anyone who criticizes him. What is to stop him from making all your DMs public? What if he turns off the "archive" and "delete" functions? You are at his mercy.

So, do folks (who aren't Nazis) still posting to Twitter not feel at all complicit by continuing to use that site? I struggle to understand.

Wow, it seems like today I've seen more images without descriptions posted than I had in the entire previous month. Is this the Twitter migration trying their best to make the Fediverse as shitty as Twitter? I just want to log off, I'm so frustrated. If I see people repeatedly doing this or boosting those who do this, I'll unfollow and mute.

So weird how people who had never heard of Eugen two weeks ago are now stanning him as hard as Musk's army of sycophants stans him, going into the replies of strangers to berate them for daring to criticize their newfound god.

You have probably heard this a million times, but if you are still on one of the mammoth instances (Eugen Rochko's mastodon.social, etc.), you should really, really move to a much smaller instance. Contrary to popular belief, this will not isolate you in a silo. The bigger the instance, the weaker the moderation, the easier it is for bad actors to hide and harass, the bigger and more frequent the technical problems.

日本人ユーザはやはり画像に説明文をつけない人が多いですね。つける人でも、説明がついていない投稿をブーストしてしまう人も多い。これがマストドンで作り上げてこられたダイバシティを重要視する文化を退化させてしまう。たまに忘れるのは仕方がないが、私はフォローしている人でつけない癖のある人に気づくとフォローをやめます。
