Hey, if you are an organization that accepts donations, it would be cool if you could make it possible to input foreign addresses in your donation forms! I don't know how many times I have wanted to donate to an organization only to be stymied by forms that only accept domestic addresses. I understand if your organization is legal prevented from accepting donations from abroad, but if not there is no logical reason to turn potential donors away at the front door! Looking at you, Bennett College.

The weird thing is, I was able to donate to Bennett College in the past using my Japanese address with no problem, but when I tried just now, the form would only accept U.S. addresses. I haven't had one of those in ages.

Never assume people living abroad won't be interested in donating to your institution!

@hashitan Ugh! I hate Matsumoto. Japanese comedy is dominated by misogynist, ignorant conservatives. Women for them exist to be the target of sexual harassment or fat-shaming. And for a woman to get ahead in Japanese comedy, she has to accept that with a smile.

今年、なぜかターキー（七面鳥）の通販が見つからない。去年まであった店にもない。ターキーが無理なら伝統的なクリスマスハムを焼きたいけど、日本ではそんなハムをマジで売ってない。これは、日本人が考える「大きいハム」の三倍ぐらいの大きさ。（もっとか？）

It now occurs to me that maybe one way of making people understand that literary translation cannot be done by a machine is to bring up the case of translating a song into a song that is singable and not weird. Find a program that can do that well (or at all) and I might consider hanging up my hat. When I talked to those kids on Friday, I asked if they had ever seen AI-produced illustrations (They had) and talked about the "uncanny valley" and how it applied to language, too.

Microblogging media make it too easy to forget Mom's famous rule: If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. Several times a week I delete a draft of a snarky toot that might make a few people smirk, but won't make the world a better place. Sometimes I actually post them, then regret it within minutes and delete the toot.
