@ntnsndr @phanpy groups *boosts* into horizontal/scrollable entities (thus visually diminishing their importance). I suspect doing something like that to frequent posters (when non-threaded by the orginal author) might serve the same function (a sort of visual penalty for lots of posts in a short period of time).

Query: I'm seeing more and more "I'm trying #linux" videos out there and most of them have people installing applications via the command line & I'm curious: does anyone have any theories about why this is? I know there are some contributors on here (thank you) and I'm really curious.
Is it a discoverability issue or are people just getting intrigued by forum posts with cli commands before installing? The stores on #gnome and #kde are so good at this point that I rarely don't use them.

Common theme in most of the sessions I've been on has been the necessity to integrate truly "private" vs. "public" frames - completely separate - on fediverse, and have that usability be both obvious and from a UX/UI perspective unable to get it wrong.
This has been true in conversations about note-taking, collaborative wiki's, personal social networks, and on and on.

@ntnsndr @ethanz I really hope you get a good answer here. I've looked for something along these lines probably every six months for the past number of years, and it seems confusing and complicated so I end up just using my phone with all of its compromises or a laptop.

Strange question: I'm hoping that there exists some #opensource painting application (a much less powerful #krita , but in a browser) that could be used for a coloring book on desktop with a mouse or moblie with touch. Ideally it would have something akin to "layers" so that the coloring page image could remain "on top".
Before I go off trying to explain how to install a desktop application to young people unlikely to have access - or building a worse version in #p5js - I figured I'd ask! :)

Any #icon or #design or #ui people know of any studies related to recognition of the below icon-types by different age ranges?
In general I'm looking for the concept of "Where" or "Location" via the invocation of a "Map".
If there's a recognition study or something I'd love to read it.
In the meantime, a poll will follow asking for which most says "location" to you.
