@Flipboard I missed many so much and think this is a good way for media to close at the crap platforms. Just one problem: I see lots of followers but empty accounts, no posts (only the NYT has one post). Why are they empty? Is the federation too fresh?
@bastianallgeier I feel you! Born on the German Rhine bank like you and living on the French side since 35 yrs., Schengen was a deliverance for me. I have been working for binational projects and common understanding for more than 30 years. We had a major setback in bicultural work due to the border closures during the pandemic, and now a new complication is coming from a German government that I would never have believed would jump on the bandwagon of cheap right-wing populism.
@kim_harding So I'm not alone with this impression. For an estimated 3 days, it wasn't just about blocking. I also reported accounts because they were spreading hate, disinformation, and propaganda that reminded me badly of Russian or MAGA provenance, including many climate change deniers. Some accounts were suspended quickly by the moderators.
It's important to report these trolls because in the Fediverse, they can get isolated. Seems to be organised ...
@adiz Pandora's box can not be closed retrospectively. AI pollution can only be tackled with resources on the same scale. Tough global laws would be one possibility. Or a kind of implosion, because the stuff will suffocate on its own ... @jasonkoebler
@randahl The same in whole Europe (the EU-Elections results) and live on Sunday in France at the #Legislatives2024 ...
But it's not only the politicians. It is the democracy-destroying mass #propaganda of the big #socialmedia platforms that works perfectly because nobody is doing anything about it effectively and too many people voluntarily expose themselves to it. The fire of #racism and #fascism is lit by Musk and Zuckerberg, and Putin & Co. It's us to vote for #democracy + human rights!
@BeAware I tell it to everybody here (sorry that I adressed only you, it was a technical bug.) It was also for @gimulnautti . 😉 BTW, it's always possible to explain things to the "general population" without arrogance.
@BeAware Science, and especially climate science, works with AI (otherwise you couldn't work with these masses of data). But these scientific programmations have nothing to do with LLM or OpenAI-like gadgets.
@josemurilo If it was possible that a private company scraped more than one million posts from #Mastodon, Mastodon must have a big privacy problem. Or am I being too sensitive?
@Brendanjones You've done a lot of work here. But honestly, I'm tired of all these "how to behave on Mastodon" guides (and it drives a lot of people away to other platforms). There is no technology that is not abused. Even now you can quote post-links (you did it above 😎 ) or people make screenshots.
More important are security implementations: they are planned as Renaud writes in his comments! So easy.
@pvonhellermannn I know. The one drop too much. But I think the difference, especially for journalists, is that until now all images/videos could be interpreted in different ways (Hamas abused hospitals). There was no hard evidence (for a court e.g.).
This time there is the photo of the impact *right next* to the warning label (without possibility of Hamas inside) and the projectile can also be identified.
