    Yep, it's color-coding that is important, of course you can do the same with just font color, but emojis just make it easier to achieve — and they are compact, while still being descriptive. I'm a huge fan of Microsoft's Segoe UI emojis and use it on all of my systems, I even use them in TUI applications: https://breloma.m0xee.net/notice/Ae47oB15Z60jbuxoWm
    They have outlines and look nice with both dark and light background.

    I've added simple navigation to the top of the page to make it usable without frames, replaced most actions with color emojis, added a button for bookmarking posts and made the emojis "interactive" (heart becomes red when you favourite, book gets closed/opened when the post gets bookmarked/unbookmarked, etc):

    It's as good as mobile clients are at this point. I'll share the patches at some point, just have to clean them up a bit.

    Yep, Python and Lua are also supported AFAIK. Originally drawing circles wasn't very straightforward in GIMP, probably still is — there was no built-in tool for that, but it was still possible by filling a square and then culling it with circular selections to make a circle. I thought your reply is a reference to that.
    But ImageMagick has always had a rich drawing toolset, for as long as I can remember, so contrary to what one might expect, using CLI tools for this is easier :marseyemojismilemouthtighteyes:

    I don't even know why a lot of people on Fedi are against these things so much — Station, a popular Gemini forum/social capsule has likes/thumbs ups and I've never seen anyone whine about how bad it is, on the contrary, I think it's a great way to show that someone is actually reading your ramblings without littering the comments and not bringing anything of substance to the table :marseyshrug:

    snac2 would fit nicely, I'm not sure about its maturity level, I'd have to assess it at some point, but I hope it gets there sooner or later to become a viable solution for older/low-powered machines.
    I'm not happy about its developer being against "popularity" metrics, like followers count — I barely pay attention to these things most of the time, but why the hell not? To me it looks like another attempt to find a technological solution for a people problem.

    Russian authorities have been working on it for quite some time, but I'm afraid for them it's not about hot Asian girls and more about poverty.

    It's surprising that GMail can still send messages to other servers at all. I think they do it for the sole purpose of making up arbitrary requirements like this one and laughing at those attempting to comply 😏

    Nonstandard port + fail2ban keep the log spam at a minimum, it's like five tries and then goodbye for 15 minutes. Few are insistent enough to keep going and in this case you can block the whole subnet manually.
