Seems like the local botanical garden is the place to go to see #butterflies this time of year. Hands down best day in a couple of weeks for sure. In addition to below, for sure saw Monarch, possible Lady, and probable Marine Blues.

@WarnerCrocker The #NYTimes frontpage article titles are absolutely infuriating. The #sanewashing is killing me.

Here are some phone-cam shots of probable Acmon Blue #butterflies mostly hanging out in the Doveweed and harassing each other. Most of my photo shots today were taken with my Canon Rebel XTi as a comparison. Butterflies are not the easiest subjects regardless of what device is used. Anyway, I’m posting some of those here as replies.

Let me say right up front that working with the digital SLR was a pain in the ass! It's just as hard, if not harder, to get the butterbirds to cooperate. I took 30 shots and ended up with maybe 6 that were worth editing into a displayable form. Here's the resulting #butterflies

Today was one of those #butterfly days where you don’t know what you got till you get home and analyze the images. I headed back to Penasquitos Creek today, primarily to see what was flying in the Heliotrope. There were a few Hairstreaks and various other things. A few people went by and I got distracted, but then some kind of Sulphur flew in and I managed to snag a video of it. Took it home to discover I has snagged a Southern Dogface; a stray in from Mexico that I have never laid eyes on. #butterflies

Other #butterflies today included California Sister (3 of them squabbling) Gray and Sylvan Hairstreaks, West Coast Ladies, Common Buckeye, Cabbage Whites, and some Skippers.

I don’t want to give the impression that today belonged to a single #butterfly species, because there were quite a few. However there were hundreds of Ringlets in my first foray into Los Penasquitos Preserve. Predictably so, since grassy expanses were dominant in the first half of the hike.

What a magnificent day for #butterflies. My only beef was that I didn’t get more time. Nothing I hadn’t seen before, but a huge variety nonetheless. Many Whites, many Hairstreaks, many Cloaks, and even many Admirals. But many many many Blues!

@bmacDonald94 But when you frame it that way, you’re backed into a corner. Just leave “evil” out of it and simply chose from the lot.

@Npars01 @Blinxeto @samhenrigold I can’t count the number of conversations I had in 2020 explaining how the red state governments were covering up massive numbers of Covid deaths. Texas and Florida in particular. CNN went right along with their bogus numbers, even though their case/death ratios were obviously completely bogus. Recall that DeSantis fired his statistician, told lies, and even threatened to have her arrested for trying to get the truth out.

@WarnerCrocker All #SCOTUS needed to do was stay out of it. The appeals court ruling was was more than adequate. But they couldn't even do that.

We would be forced into reliance on natural electricity production, ethanol, and animal power. It wouldn’t support 10 billion but it would support 100 million.

We’re already committed to what is coming. Once sea level rise “mobilizes” 10-20 percent of the population it’s all over. A good 80 percent of petroleum distillers will be under water.
We gotta stop now.

@goatsarah @Holberg I remember once during summer field geology our cook made spaghetti and the recipe called for 5 cloves of garlic. Being a student and a newbie cook, he thought they meant 5 entire bulbs.
I have to say, it wasn’t awful, but we trespassed on a dimension reached only through #garlic. 😁
