>> Microbes that can produce an atmosphere on Mars would be nice, but some that can #sequester#carbon here would be better.
👏
Well, we have #photosynthesis here to convert carbon to oxygen, but who cares about #Green anymore, when #fossilFools (ha! not my term) rule the world?
via @SANKOFAB >> Since Burkina Faso gained independence in 1960, the country never had any gold reserves despite being the 3rd biggest site for gold exploration in #Africa and 4th biggest gold producer in Africa, all its gold was taken to mostly France.
Russia is now accusing #Ukraine (of all countries) of escalating tensions on the African continent, claiming that Kyiv’s alleged support for militant groups in Mali and Niger constitutes a “second front” in the ongoing conflict with Moscow 👀
>> That is incorrect, but you’re certainly entitled to your opinion. The difference is the #RussianFederation was invited in by the #Sahel countries
Umm, "invited".
The image you posted quotes Ibrahim #Traore, "I don't understand why we need foreign nationals or experts to mine our gold, when we could do it ourselves"
>> Capitalism is the problem. No amount of taxation will eliminate this as long as the capitalist system of private ownership of the means of production exists… where the owners extract surplus value from workers…
If there is no surplus value, economies stagnate, shrink, and collapse. The goal is to tax the surplus in a way to discourage the surplus from being concentrated in a few dozen hands. That does not require govt control means of production
>> Everyone seems to be averting their eyes from the fact that capitalism as a system seems to require underpaid or slave labor to keep things affordable to the general public so that it works out … Is there a way to have capitalism without relying on exploitation?
I really enjoy @emptywheel's writing because she has the ability to #LiftTheFog and always comes with receipts.
Nobody said it was #Garland's fault alone, but this seems difficult to refute:
DOJ's approach “can be traced to Garland’s desire to [avoid] allegations of partisanship… Inside [DOJ]… some lawyers have complained that the AG's determination to steer clear of any claims of political motive has chilled efforts to investigate #Trump.
>> I’m not necessarily a Biden apologist, but I do think that if you’ve made a decision about a thing, and then later you learn more information about the situation, it’s legitimate to change your mind.
2 wks after #Biden won in 2020, he privately told advisers that he doesn't want his presidency to be consumed by investigations of his predecessor #Trump.
3 wks after that, an insurrection happened on #Jan6, but Biden never corrected course.
