Since Burkina Faso gained independence in 1960, the country never had any gold reserves despite being the 3rd biggest site for gold exploration in Africa and 4th biggest gold producer in Africa, all its gold was taken to mostly France. Captain Ibrahim Traore came into power nationalized several gold mines, built a gold processing factory and on the last month of 2024 his government showcased an extracted 93 kilograms of gold from 142 tonnes of fine coal.
