@thomasfuchs One could argue that heat (rejected in the environment) is a side product of cooling devices while it is the main product of heating devices ;-)
So the parallel is not that simple...

@thomasfuchs agreed
small AC unit that one can find in EU are like 600/700W
coupled with 2 solar panels, it's basically free
very seriously considering it (today is 39 degrees c here, tomorrow 40)
then other questions arise:
- energy efficiency? (any loss is more heat generated)
- environment effects? (short terms local one and longer terms ones)
- alternative like passive cooling with better insulation?
@thomasfuchs
You mean purely power in watts right? Not actual electricity consumed in a day. One only run a kettle few times a day (personally once or twice), not for hours like AC unit.
(overall I think I agree with your oint on energy not being a deciding factor for AC, especially with plentiful solar, but that's a different longer discussion)
@thomasfuchs I'm puzzled...
So there are more and more heat waves and the proposal is more AC everywhere?
@ryanc
This thread is soooo good. I need to make my attempts (as most, based on past experiences):
- power fluctuation that lower just enough to make some device unreliable but not enough to trigger any shutdown or power fallback
- if this is related to outdoor devices: rabbit partially ate cable or ant nest into a box that makes it just too hot to work well (but again not enough to shut it down)
À la limite, tu pourrais utiliser "IT profesionnals" ou "IT engineers".
@kravietz It would be funny to see China getting involved in EU/Russia confrontation, putting pressure on Russia to ensure a fast path to peace and restore commercial routes...
That's not even a crazy scenario.
@ati1 @kravietz I understand the take.
It doesn't seem to fit with historical position from China and its (very strong) attachment to peace as the main driver for international commerce and economy.
Time will tell...

I've been telling this for a while now.

There is a large research corpus in human cognition which studies how people think and how our thinking can be (easily) fooled.
It is usually completely ignored by AGI fanboys (so it's easier to make grand claim about artificial cognition)
