@Shivviness @fkamiah17 @aral I guess no one seriously expected the Democrats to stop enabling war crimes. Neither side in US politics would do that. The US has always put itself above international law.
I've been thinking if there is a way to inject text on my website that will mess with AI scrapers that ignore my robots.txt file, but doesn't affect readability and accessibility to actual visitors.
Any ideas?
Spotted a headline in a Norwegian financial newspaper the other day saying "You don't get rich from a pay check". I don't know what the article says, because paywall, but there is anyway a good point there:
The way most people get very rich is by taking money that should be on other people's pay checks. So I guess that adds up. ๐คทโ๏ธ
@forteller Jeg var ikke i nรฆrheten av telefonen akkurat da alarmen kom, sรฅ slapp akkurat det. ๐
"Outcry from big AI firms"
Well, I take that as a good sign.
Well, fuck you Stack Overflow. I deleted my answers and have now deleted all my accounts.
@aaribaud Not sure what you mean by "zones", but you can put the footnotes anywhere you want in the document, and define your own key. The only reason they need to be unique is in case you move them between documents, or merge documents. Adding a warning is probably a good idea though.
Over the last three weeks I've been tinkering with adding a footnotes feature to @novelwriter. It was non-trivial, as I had to come up with a syntax for it, make the indexer handle it, and add build support into HTML, markdown and Open Document. The latter took a fair bit of tinkering too.
But it is done, and merged! The final diff was +2,181 โ1,338. Quite a lot, although I took the opportunity to clean up and extend some tests. Coverage's now at 99.61% ๐
Since footnotes are so rarely used in fiction, it wasn't really worth it for that alone. However, the framework I've added will also be usable for adding highlight comments/annotations for Open Document exports too. It is also usable for a new story structure feature I've been discussing with a few other people.
The footnotes feature was one of the oldest remaining features in the backlog. Over 4 years old. Good to get it done finally too. ๐
The footnote syntax is based on both the shortcode and comments formats that already exist, so no new syntax was added.
Each footnote needs a key to associate it with the corresponding % comment. These are free form, but auto-generated if you create the footnote and comment pair from the Insert menu, so no need to type any of it yourself. It's just a single click.
The % comment syntax is also used for adding a synopsis to chapter and scenes, and will be extended to other features as well.
I'm considering something more pleasant than "f4xr5" etc as keys. At the moment, they're randomly generated from a pool of 810000 possible keys. I may instead make them sequential numbers.
A quick reminder that humans have not yet invented AI. It's an imitation puffed up by marketing. They've dressed up a parrot as Agent Smith.
I just realised every week for the next four weeks will be four day work weeks!
Next week has Labour Day, then there's Ascension Day the week after, then it's Constitution Day in Norway, and finally Whit Monday the fourth week.
May is giving us a taste of the four day work week! ๐
Looks like we're in for an era of bloatware on phones mostly there for the manufacturers to inflate their stock prices. It will certainly encourage me to hang on to my current phone for longer.
@BethanyBlack I'd retire by lunch today if I got a call that I'd inherited some rich uncle I didn't know about.
@siege So the cat version of this, which was allegedly meant for humans (haven't seen it in real life since my grandparent's generation were around).
Context: It is complete snow chaos in the south of Norway right now. This isn't very common this far south, and on the coast. A little further west, where I live. There isn't any snow at all. In the north and in the mountains in the south, this happens more often. Although the volume of snow in such a short time is unusual in general.
