There's a data #collective called @datacoop, where a bunch of #Danes have the gumption to run their own independent bare metal. They're considering colocation even.

They have shared services and individual services, depending upon usage - and each user pays through a membership system.

There's even a cheaper tier below standard to be inclusive. It's quite inspirational.

If anyone in #Norway / #Norge would be interested in taking part in a future #datacollective, just talk to @papiris

Out of pure curiosity, and because I'm on that #webdev #framework discovery tip. Heck, this project even made me download an IDE for Android lol

Just to read `install.bin` - which is an sh script.

Excuse me, but why are you bundling #nodejs and #npm? Is it to facilitate a setup process for containers, or is it merely to make the process easy?

I'm a bit sceptical to that sort of thing, especially when fetching from a vendors domain directly.

Any plans to build packages via CI?

@Suiseiseki but thanks. You've proven how dumb I myself have been lately with a similar approach.

You make it clear that bial from a besserwisser will rub people the wrong way and actually not convey anything, so it's more masturbatory than anything.

I shall endeavour to improve my communication skills.

    I hope you do too.

@Suiseiseki no, it's the fact that he afterwards made a big letter complaining about Intel not contributing back after the fact.

In regards to open source, you are right - as it was coined in Palo Alto via Netscape - so kudos.

You could have said that instead of spewing a giant wall of text that I nor anyone else will read.

@Suiseiseki no, it's an umbrella term that doesn't necessarily encompass free or libre software that was invented by academians who wanted to get away from big corporations.

See Cambridge in the UK circa 1970s.

But "source available"? Now that's corpo speak.

But yeah, GPL ≠ MIT ≠ BSD ≠ CC.

    @BrodieOnLinux pretty much.

"#Microsoft 🤎 #OpenSource" is basically corpo speak for "Microsoft 🤎 to exploit the hell out of Open Source".

They went from giving hidden costs and predatory contracts to their clients, to offsetting their costs with open source...

...like #Apple! Wheeeeeee I hate corpos.

I noticed that one of them is on the #IzzyOnDroid repo and the libre version is one incremental version behind.

Also, if you scroll down on the Aves regular version, #FDroid warns you that it's anti features is use of #Google proprietary libraries.

    So #Chromecast or #AndroidTV features?

@BrodieOnLinux yeah, i was probably misrepresenting the issue.

I seem to remember that certain Qt app developers didn't publish to Flathub, simply because they didn't meet with the guidelines. Again, that could also be wrong.

Calling it a lie... is a bit extreme. But hey, my feed is apparently a place to through around words.

It's clear to me that #flathub is the go-to vendor for Flatpak package distribution and as such, it sort of becomes a vendor lock-in situation... but #Flatpak supports third party repos OOB and #snap doesn't.

Flathub has also been held to the fire and it lead to a change in policy, thanks to the likes of @BrodieOnLinux shining a light on certain issues, like flathub enforcing #gnome like requirements and spiting #QT apps, which has since been changed to be more inclusive.

@forteller #AppImage support is still done on a per-distro basis, and it really isn't much more than setting permission and executing certain environment variables... I think.

But mayhaps this is a job for ... #FREEDESKTOP

Hello. I'm free desktop... gief money,
We craves it, WE NEEDS IT!!

But yeah, maybe xdg-open should handle that problem. Then distros wouldn't need to do anything to get first rate AppImage support by removing those annoyances.

    One can only hope.

When it comes to #Linux and packages for the user, #Flatpak for when you need shared dependencies and #AppImage for when you need a portable app. Basically we've already solved both the "app store" and "downloadable executable" problems.

Snaps could compete, if it supported third party repos OOB and wasn't a vendor lock-in situation, but if and buts were candies and nuts...

I give shoutouts to software. Big whoop. Once more, lets talk #inkscape

I basically got some new shapes by installing the inkscape-open-symbols into my user share folder, which would have been cool to have inside the actual application. But the symbol sets need to be properly formatted, so there you go.

I need to draw up some easy to understand illustrations, and I think: symmetry is akin to accessibility. Shout out to my OCD fam. I used simple snapping to expedite concept stages and it's ez.

Maybe I need to qualify that all these screenshots are in #Norwegian lol But still, I've written the alt texts of the screenshots in English if you want some translation.

My job now is cajiggering in #Inkscape to my workflow and to create ways to easily deliver graphics, assets and illustrations.

It's going to take a bit more exploring before I get to a point where I can consider myself afluent in the ways of Inkscape.

    How am I doing so far, @inkscape @doctormo ?

also, still learning how to make threads... apparently I'm all over the place, but it's more or less a "blogging" of my learning process and I share my experiences as I go along.

Feel free to correct me if I've made any logical errors, language errors, etc. I'm only human, tryng to hume the best I can.

For future reference, I might try to make one long thread instead of branching ones. But I feel like some asides deserve their own branch.

Again: I'm learning as I go.

Can we just gush a little about #gimp - particularly the one situated in the #flathub #flatpak beta repo.
This whole window is unintrusive. The title and window controls are just sort of there, at the top of the window. A standard titlebar, toolbar in a single column to the left, and on the right grouping toolkit dialogues on the top and project management dialogues on the bottom, all surrounding the canvas.
It's more cohesive, more compact, and gives focus to the actual image itself... one sec

I'm from BaaaaaaaaarRrrRrRRrRRgrn, Norway! I love free libre open source software AND open hardware, securing privacy and autonomy for all - because of the digital world world we live in. I'm also a recovering distro hopper, I've worked as a sysadmin (or "SysOps" I think it's called today) and I'm currently interested in getting into modern web development.
