@Fragglemuppet Tov & Dr Prager's, unfortunately my area doesn't sell much of either, (my main requirements being they be kosher & not have msg nor mushrooms in them) which is why within the next year or so, I'm going to build a setup to make my own frozen & reheat meals in the summer & fall for the mostly winters I use them in.

@Fragglemuppet bluejays & robins being amongst the most common songbirds I hear & see in my front yard...windchimes most commonly heard when & with most of the walnuts falling, September & October...

But I've also got 1 flock of chickens in my basement now, probably will have 2 within the next year & as such being able to hear what's happening helps maintain safety.

@Fragglemuppet there's also often a specific song that hens sing when they lay an egg, and as such, if they're close in timing, I can collect them in a more timely manner.

@Fragglemuppet *nods* I've at least a dozen, more specifically black walnut trees, one being so close that if I left my bedroom window open during the right time of year, there's a very real possibility I could get one blown to the foot of my bed.

@Fragglemuppet it's a really strange yet common thing for me to see pushed in the realm of home repairs & improvements --- these things called "sound proofing" & "noise reduction" because in as much as if I lived in a big & densely populated city (as I once did for a few years) that would make at least a little sense, where I am now it just doesn't, because there's rarely loud noises that don't mean some type of trouble & thusly I want to be able to hear what's happening.

@Fragglemuppet yes and it's fine if it's the fairly consistent sounds of a flock of chickens too or even fish moving around a pond/tank with it's pump running.....I need something otherwise I basically jump with every movement heard & as sensitive as my hearing is...that can be a walnut falling to the ground 200 feet from my house, in the backyard.

So another round of the same accounting manipulation set that repeats every now & then --- budget resolution- has allowed a flashy & emotional headline set to spring up from it....

When you vow you'll not gain more than 90% of the weight, that you did over the past decade & then you in fact gain that 90% - you won't tell anyone that you "lost weight" but that's exactly what these "cuts" are .....and as such I'm not "angry at the #GOP for cutting my #Medicaid" & not just because I'm not likely to even use it more than once over those years over lacking trust in medical care providers either....but because the odds are just as with the weight "loss" nothing in medicaid benefits will actually be cut in this!

    https://www.texasstandard.org/stories/american-southwest-airlines-challenging-wheelchair-accessibility-rules/

The title is a little misleading as this isn't just about wheelchairs but rather about all mobility aides & thusly protection of those of us who use them.

This change in rules, if enacted, would change my chances of at least considering airline travel from under 1% to about 20%, because it'd demand that if my devices were damaged/destroyed or lost, the airline would at least cover some of those costs, because now they don't and as such paying for hotels/motels on long distance trips where I'd drive is cheaper than my paying for said destruction.

*The other part of why I don't use planes being the assault committed under the auspices of "security", body scanner or hands on not mattering much to me, they're both completely wrong.

The ’10-Minute Walk’ Campaign Could Bring More Parks To Texas
      from Shelly Brisbin
The Standard’s news roundup gives you a quick hit of interesting, sometimes irreverent, and breaking news stories from all over the state. It might be hard to believe in a car-centric state like Texas, but on average about 50 percent of Texans live within walking distance of a public park. Now a new initiative wants to up that figure to 100 percent. Adrian Benepe is senior vice president and director of city park development for The Trust for Public Land, one of the groups behind this new, nationwide park campaign. “That’s a campaign aimed at mayors and the idea is that everybody in every city across America should have a 10-minute walk,” he says. Over 134 mayors across the country have signed onto the “10-minute walk” campaign, including 10 in Texas. Benepe says one of the first mayors in the state to sign onto the initiative was Houston’s Sylvester Turner. Other Texas cities that have signed up include Austin, College Station, Grand Prairie, Killeen, Lewisville, Plano and Fort Worth. Benepe says increasing and improving parks is one of the few bipartisan issues out there. “Ya know, when it comes to parks, we’re not red or blue – we’re all green,” he says. Starting in 2018, the Trust for Public Land, along with the National Recreation and Park Association and Urban Land Institute, will begin working with select cities to achieve the 10-minute walk goal. A federal judge has ruled that Gov. Greg Abbott violated a group’s first amendment rights when he decided a mock nativity scene should be removed from the Texas Capitol in 2015. That year, the Freedom From Religion Foundation advocated for the separation of church and state, with a scene featuring the Bill of Rights in a manger. At the time, Abbott called the scene a “juvenile parody.” Abbott also tweeted late Sunday night that the judge’s decision will be appealed. The first heritage trail in Texas named for an artist will honor legendary El Paso illustrator, novelist, and war correspondent Tom Lea. El Paso State Sen. Jose Rodriguez spoke at the announcement of the trail at the end of last week. Rodriguez authored the bill to create the trail. “It is important because it places us on the map as a city that values culture, that values our heritage,” he said. The trail will connect 11 cities in the state where Lea lived and worked, including Odessa, College Station, and Galveston.

@aral oh I've given a few similar impromptu "talks" lol ... So much of what I've been involved in through the years having been so messily organized....

Pretty typical day & week so far for me, which is to say nothing in sensation in my hands, wrists, feet nor most of my lower legs during said week, which is why I'm looking forward to warmer weather, knowing I won't really get it for a while yet.

No, the people who are cheering on the trade wars of tariffs that are going to drive up building supply costs, aren't my allies, as this mess is going to harm people like me, who don't have the money to hire contractors for much if anything & thusly are buying the supplies direct for our use.

I don't give a rats anus if this hurts or helps #Trump or #Biden , I care that it'll delay my home repairs & improvements!

@big_louse #AntiWork is also fighting #ableism and their hierarchies & caste system that makes the oxymoronic system we now have, where 20-30% of the global human population has at least one disability, most live in places with govt provided disability aid programs for disabled who can't do what's considered "work" and yet over 99% of disabled people do work, even if it's only the hundred's of hours of added tasks needed to continue to "prove it" ("it" being that we can't work by their extremely narrow definition).

At this point until #Guilds and #unions alike expand into the vast majority of people being members of at least one of them & gain sizable power, I don't even see how the rights of #disabled who don't & can't do any paid work, will ever gain real & full rights.

I know the focus is pretty much always on unions & how they've largely vanished but guilds are needed too, now more than unions, as we keep getting more & more decentralized overall... As guilds aid independent contractors/sole proprietorships which keep gaining in % of the real economy.

I don't even want to guess at the specific costs of fixing things anymore, as supply costs & tools keep rising, but minimally we'll need $10,000 to even get this house in decent shape again. Help if you can, a #disabled married couple, of a #Jewish woman & #Wiccan man.

@mook *nods* I don't plan on ballot casting for 3 main reasons
    1. I believe the machines will rig away my & other people's choices in counting

    2. I don't believe that the person listed as POTUS is even in real authority anymore & even if they were, anyone I'd actually want wouldn't have enough people in the house & senate to push through any public policy changes I want.

    3. With how difficult physically standing in the lines, filling out a ballot & putting it in for scanning is on me, I don't really find, what small odds remain of my getting something good done with this, in risking myself for said mess set.

*Ideally I'd like a combo of ranked choice voting, publicly hand counted paper ballots & going back to the system of whichever candidate came in 2nd automatically becoming VP --- then I might have a chance of getting my "dream team" or similar of a Libertarian as POTUS & Green as VP for 8 years before that'd flip- then in 24 years we even might have a decent political setup...🙍

@mook especially as Harris & Trump are both viewed minimally as "not great options" by over 60% of people eligible to ballot cast in the USA.

Posts like from said people just make them seem like messes of people & don't help their party nor candidate gain support from the growing # of people of my ilk, who revile all Republicrats

Republicrat : A Democrat, Republican, Green, Libertarian or other/unaffiliated politician &/or candidate for public office that largely believes in & supports the status quo including but not limited to:
1.Keeping the components of the Intel/security state going like the Department of Homeland Security, FBI, CIA, NIA, NSA, ICE as agencies

    2. Keeping the big corporate partners of the US government intact, instead of either banning or shredding them via antitrust laws like Microsoft, Iheart/clear channel, Google, Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Monsanto, Walmart, Nesley & 3M

    3. Maintaining or pushing the myth set that SSA benefits are only for seniors, the SSA programs have been protected to keep up with real cost of living increases, the ADA does have an enforcement mechanism inclusive of law enforcement, elected politicians or their staffers going around & actually enforcing a set of accessibility standards

    4. Maintaining or pushing the narrative that either #republicans or #democrats consistently when in office push a clearly defined set of public policy positions that's very different from the other of those two.
