Somebody lost a treasured item.
From Bsky:

Lost a very special Coraline Cat at the Kneecap Crystal Palace gig in London on Saturday night.

Incredibly long shot but means a lot.

Any and all help very welcome.

Pictured visiting Big Ben and at the gig.

If it's a fly it's probably full sized. My understanding is that they do almost all of their growth as grubs and then metamorphosize into adult flies that mate and die.

I'm not sure what they are called. In our household we call them my fan club because they tend to swarm me and no one else.

Hi Friends,

If you are a US citizen, please take a moment to learn about the new Office of Management and Budget proposal for massive changes to the use of federal funds.

https://elizabethginexi.substack.com/p/this-new-omb-rule-is-bigger-than

(sorry its substack)

A lot of scientists are concerned about what its going to do to science, but it turns out it's much bigger impacting medicaid, transportation, education and more.

There's a comment period and it would be great to have a big push back from all sectors.

Nice life sometimes

Ok, so the brushes I ordered don't fit my equipment.

Anyone have tips on finding replacement brushes for small electronic motors?

(I have catalog numbers from the ancient manual, but I can't find anyone that sells them.)

These are for laboratory equipment, a tube roller (New Brunswick TV7), and rockers (motor: Dayton electronics 4z539a).

Hey Ann Arbor Ypsilanti Folks

I saw some reports on Bsky that there were fed puling kids out of class at Washtenaw Community College.

Anyone have reliable info on this?

Looks like parents were detained at local schools.

@skinnylatte

Sounds good. Getting that mental separation is good.

When I was working from home during the pandemic, I played tricks with myself to separate work and home time.

I 'commuted' to work in the morning by getting dressed and going on a 10 minute walk and then went straight to my desk after the walk.

I had set time for lunch and afternoon tea. I changed out of my work clothes when I was done for the day.

A story in two parts.

Courtesy of my sister.

Now is an excellent time to donate gently used toys or electronics so that they are available before the holidays.

Wow. Based on some talking points I've seen, I realize that I'm such a brave bad-ass or maybe blessed. I've been to DC three times.

I took the public transit each time. I walked around downtown, albeit around the conference center, by myself at night.

Last summer, I spent time in Portland, Oregon, waiting for my mom in surgery. I walked to a nearby cafe.

This summer, I flew into SFO and took the BART all the way to the East Bay.

I was not murdered, but maybe I'm just lucky.

Sad to hear that Jane Goodall has passed away

At one point, I wanted to be the Jane Goodall of ants. Although my interests changed in college, and I'm now a cell biologist, I point to her as a major role model for me throughout my career.

Her impact on the world is beyond measure.

Dear Driver in the car with the illegally dark tinted windows,

The reason I would not go when I had the right of way and you had your right blinker on is that I could not see you, the driver.

If I cannot see you acknowledge that I am crossing in front of you as a pedestrian or as a bike, I don't cross. Got it?

There is a reason window tints are regulated.

Sincerely,

I'd like to keep from getting smeared on an SUV's grill.

How much ranch dressing will I have?

@NanoRaptor

Many people approach formalized help wrong-eg thesis committees in graduate school. Really, it’s free help—don’t try to prove you don’t need help.

A formatting trick to prevent editing the wrong document when working with multiple documents.

Periodic reminder.

When you have two versions of a document open for editing, change the background color so you don't mistakenly edit the wrong document.

Please applaud. I got carded buying nonalcoholic beer. I am 52.

If you do not know, there is an open comment period for a proposal by the Office of Personnel Management about reclassifying many civil servants from career positions to at-will positions.

What this means is that it will be possible for the administration to fire someone due to their politics or beliefs.

The comment period ends tomorrow.

So, just in case, I downloaded the entire USDA guide to canning. I refer to it every year when I can. I expect canning more things this year and want to make sure I have access to safe instructions. I'm afraid it might get DOGE'ed
