Wow, this is just gutting.

For the 10% of workers terminated immediately yesterday, apparently, there was no discussion with the government's intellectual property attorneys, no planning to continue the work on funded grants or other contracts, and no chance to distribute biological collections to colleagues across the world. No time to discuss data management. There was no time for questions asked about papers or grant proposals that may be under review.

Dear US federal workers,

Thank you for what you do. Please do not take the buyout!

This is how they destroy the best of our country. If you leave, you won't be replaced, your team will get less done or do it less well. Eventually, the poor quality will be used to justify privatization. And regardless of whatever inefficiencies or idiosyncrasies your team currently suffers from, you are infinitely better than United Health Care or brits disaster of privatized sewage. Please stay!

Look for one with problem sets and answers. my 1990s era Thomas is good for that.

So mom got scammed. She was watching Amazon Prime on her TV and got a pop-up that she needed to install a viewer to watch a certain movie, and a QR code to scan. QR asked her to sign up for a free account with a credit card.

Her credit card company blocked the charge and called her.

Someone hacked into her TV or Amazon sent malvertisement.

What should we do? Reset to factory defaults and change passwords? What about the phone she scanned the QR code with? WiFi router?

Here's one thing to say:

Including the safety of people outside of the car as a category in vehicle regulations is long overdue.

Any vehicle that is not subject to non-occupant safety should require a commercial driver's license.

Currently, the proposed regulations exempt vehicles over a certain weight; this exemption appears arbitrary and likely to prompt the sale of extraordinarily heavy and deadly vehicles to the general public.

Have you tried a hot spoon on it? I swear it works even days after the bite. Heat a metal spoon in hot water (coffee/tea temp) then pat the bite with it. You want to get it as hot as possible without burning yourself. For me, the swelling and itching will go down in just a couple of minutes. Which is consistent with the literature on heat treating mosquito bites.

We're entering peak faculty interview season in my field.

One of the most common ways a candidate is derailed during the interview is not deflecting aggressive questioning during the seminar or chalk talk.

Although this may be a sign to run, the questioner might not even be a part of the interviewing department.
