I've felt the same about computers overall. I'd rather do stuff in the real world. No real sense of achievement when it comes to computers.

I was gonna buy a 3D printer, but such equipment would mean more computer time. More and more I'm asking myself "do I really want to spend more time on the computer?" I've been reminded of mortality a lot in the past year, I don't want to die having lived in front of a screen.

Computers are valuable tools. Not something to build life around.

Almost went off the road reaching for the mike or tuning the VFO. Looking down at the radio, looking back up, and finding myself riding the center line, in the oncoming lane, or 10 MPH over the limit. Things like that.

It seemed like a good multitasker like that. I'm like Alton Brown, I hate unitaskers! After a couple close calls I'll never have a mobile radio again, but I'll probably be buying a second one for various portable work. Seems like it would work well for portable when inside a parked car in winter, on a table or tripod in summer, and be nice and compact in the extremely unlikely case of disaster that requires evacuation.

Took a look at the #Icom IC-7100 again. I was not aware that it had USB connectivity. Now that I know that, I'm definitely gonna go with that instead of the IC-7300, the remote head concept is gonna be a lot easier to work into my desk that's cluttered like a victorian professor's and make it easier to route coax. No need for a second VHF/UHF radio as well. From the videos I've seen, the screen is a lot easier for me to see than the IC-7300 too.

I preferred direct QSL, so I sent them every day. Note that frequency of sending is not as useful a question to ask as it may seem. Operators who prefer to QSL via buro will not send them every day regardless of how many contacts they make. They'll generally wait until the box or large envelope to the appropriate buro is full and then mail them off.

I don't think you'd get as many users as you think.

For those of us who send them, the whole point is to write them out by hand. There are some people who use labels or direct printing to make them out, but I've only seen a very small handful. It's really an opportunity to say hello in addition to confirming the contact, and digital text isn't a very nice hello.

I did, a couple years ago. Most of the members were from Australia at the time, at least the active ones, and I couldn't break through the time difference. I'd be asleep when there would be action and when I tried to reply or get a discussion going, everybody else was asleep. Not a good fit for somebody on the other side of the world!

That's the same reason I'll never go back to my local club. Trying to assert myself in a space full of gun-toting religious conservatives probably wouldn't go well. Trying to get them to understand what "nonbinary" and "asexual" mean would probably go over just as well.

Meanwhile here in Pennsylvania you can change it with a simple form at the DMV. No court paperwork required.

I WAS originally considering RG-8X for my #AmateurRadio portable activities, but I feel it may be too big and bulky for #QRP.

Regular QRP operators, what is your favourite small coaxial cable type?

If it helps, I don't plan on any cable being longer than 30 feet.
