I've actually been working on a piece similar this for a few months, but I kept questioning my knowledge and the overall premise (that "AI" companies are not viable business models), checking my data and re-writing so much that I've genuinely worried the "AI" market would collapse before it was ready to be published.

Honestly this piece by @Zitron is so comprehensive I feel liberated!

      OpenAI Is A Bad Business
OpenAI, a non-profit AI company that will lose anywhere from $4 billion to $5 billion this year, will at some point in the next six or so months convert into a for-profit AI company, at which point it will continue to lose money in exactly the same way. Shortly after

@tchambers @karaswisher @fediversenews Kara Swisher's Twitter addiction was the final straw that inspired me to start Stay Grounded. Really happy to see someone like her learning about the Fediverse.

@johnonolan ActivityPub is a protocol that better facilitates a connection between people, generative AI is a technology that better facilitates removing other humans from the interaction.

@tchambers @jaz It makes sense when you consider that not only does the Fediverse have orders of magnitude more mods/admins per user, but that those mods are more likely to be members of the community themselves, and thus better able to put things into proper context.

tl;dr, BlueSky is not really decentralized, instance owners have no actual control over moderation. The biggest player (the company BlueSky) effectively controls everything.

“A work of art which did not begin in emotion is not art.” - Paul Cezanne

I feel for the myriad folks who's main exposure to "art" is going to be low-effort mass-marketed "content", not ever meant to truly connect with anyone, but simply out to make a buck.

Without knowing what real art feels like, it's harder to make the connection that maybe the reason your soul hasn't effused the sublime lately is because you're consuming nothing but refined mental calories.

@GottaLaff @TechConnectify @jztusk @mastodonmigration @Teri_Kanefield @Popehat @mmasnick @mattblaze Furthermore, trolls are on the lower end of the "reasons to avoid Twitter" list while the owner is posting antisemitic conspiracies. Meta quite literally enabled genocide in Myanmar. The Fediverse may require a greater degree of personal responsibility but supporting those companies by encouraging one's following to go there is, IMO, morally contemptible.

Rather than falling in line when Apple threatened to cancel the show, Stewart reportedly decided to walk."

"Reddit is a Dying Mall" (by me!)

I predict that what will happen to #Reddit is the same thing that is happening to Twitter and has already happened to Facebook and frankly, actual shopping malls. The business side of things will churn along divorced from the content which will become ever more generic and culturally irrelevant.
