@mmasnick Leaving this great post by @rysiek here: https://rys.io/en/167.html
tl;dr, BlueSky is not really decentralized, instance owners have no actual control over moderation. The biggest player (the company BlueSky) effectively controls everything.
@tchambers Gab was only federated for a very brief period of time, correct?

Regardless, yes it would be interesting to read about!
I think you tagged the wrong account- this is Mike's Mastodon account: @mike
“A work of art which did not begin in emotion is not art.” - Paul Cezanne
I feel for the myriad folks who's main exposure to "art" is going to be low-effort mass-marketed "content", not ever meant to truly connect with anyone, but simply out to make a buck.
Without knowing what real art feels like, it's harder to make the connection that maybe the reason your soul hasn't effused the sublime lately is because you're consuming nothing but refined mental calories.
@GottaLaff @TechConnectify @jztusk @mastodonmigration @Teri_Kanefield @Popehat @mmasnick @mattblaze Furthermore, trolls are on the lower end of the "reasons to avoid Twitter" list while the owner is posting antisemitic conspiracies. Meta quite literally enabled genocide in Myanmar. The Fediverse may require a greater degree of personal responsibility but supporting those companies by encouraging one's following to go there is, IMO, morally contemptible.
"According to the Hollywood Reporter, ahead of its decision to end The Problem, Apple approached Stewart directly and expressed its need for the host and his team to be “aligned” with the company’s views on topics discussed. Rather than falling in line when Apple threatened to cancel the show, Stewart reportedly decided to walk."
Shocked that Apple would behave this way /s

@tchambers @activitypubblueskybridge Every time someone mentions BlueSky's "decentralization" I feel obligated to mention this article from @rysiek
"Reddit is a Dying Mall" (by me!)
I predict that what will happen to #Reddit is the same thing that is happening to Twitter and has already happened to Facebook and frankly, actual shopping malls. The business side of things will churn along divorced from the content which will become ever more generic and culturally irrelevant.
