Don't believe this has ever been made public, but the role of the Phantom in point and click adventure Return of the Phantom was played by... Sid Meier.
The designer of the game told me they offered him the part and, after some convincing, he agreed.
The make-up took several hours but, apparently, Sid had fun.

El Shaddai Ascension to Metatron is 13 years old but doesn't really show its age, lookin as gorgeous as a title from last year.
Now, gameplay might be nothing more than press X to attack a gazillion times, but few titles came close to looking this weird and beautiful. Maybe the original NieR.

@HauntedOwlbear I still like to mention Friday the 13th that, despite being a quite awful game, still had so many interesting mechanics for an adventure title for home computers in 1985 (sanity meter, the first jumpscare in gaming etc)

Why were those games "not good"? The developers told me a story of rushed dev times and a toxic environment.

@retrohistories Eric Chahi's Le Pacte is a good one, it was his adventure game right before Another World. Despite the author's notoriety, that game remains in French only and only released on CPC. So... yeah. But I did play it on Twitch recently and it was pretty interesting.

Armed & Delirious (aka Dementia) is also a pretty good example in that it is a ... uh unique adventure game but it would be almost impossible to re-release it today.

Why should you waste your time playing any of the Fallout games, when you can instead go for the original post-apocalyptic wasteland experience in Visions of Aftermath - The Boomtown from 1988. A full-on simulation of living in a post apocalyptic world. Unfortunately, the released version has an irritating glitch, so it is necessary to make frequent backups of your world. The original version also came in with a full-on survival manual instructing you on what to do in case of real life fallout.

Love arguing with Daggerfall NPCs that first don't like my polite tone, then accuses me of being rude, and then clearly doesn't want to answer my question anyway.

As soon as I heard about the complicated and quite strange story of Cookie's Bustle, I knew I had to write something on it.

Indeed, many of Llamasoft's titles were pirated, as usual for the time, in Italy, but only three of them received loader art. Care to guess which is which? One is obvious, the others... well not so much.
