I was just looking for a more elegant way of doing the HTML part of it.

The reload forces the "root" URL to pull the query off the URL so that the light doesn't constantly flip on and off with every reload.

I don't want to use Java or require (allow?) the arduino to go outside of the LAN to pick up libraries from anything... Looking for a simple, self-contained, stable solution.

I added the reload so that I could have a state written to the HTML.. Light is on/off sort of thing. I couldn't think of a better way to do it.

I will be adding a sensor (eventually) to determine if the door is up or down, but that's down the road.

So, that's the reason for my query.. is there a more elegant way to handle the "status" on the webpage that doesn't require a reload to a forced blank URL?

Not really... Just download the lists, cd to /opt/fediblockwhatever/
then execute
grep -R <instanceURLwithoutTheBraces> *

It'll tell you what files your instance shows up in.

What can be done to get this "detroit riot city" instance defederated posthaste? This doesn't represent Detroit in any way that I know of, and certainly doesn't belong with the civilized federation.

One only has to look at the flashy gif at the top of their landing page to understand what's going on.

Per the announcement you re-tooted, there will be analytics, which means someone is going to be compiling that data somewhere, without the consent of anyone on Mastodon or the greater Fediverse,.
This is as much a search engine as Google is, from the description and from what I've read so far.
Mastodon users are about to be indexed, categorized, and their data stored without their consent
The current hashtag search works. We don't need an external database with metrics...

@atomicpoet I Want none of this on Mastodon. If I want someone to tell me what I should be paying attention to, or what I should be afraid of, I'll talk to my wife, or turn on CNN or FOX news (the latter for the lulz, of course).
I enjoy being able to determine what I see here, as opposed to the crap-crammed-down-my-throat algorithms of other social media outlets.
