@ruari wow I didn't know *that* was the reason for embossed cards ๐ฎ
I'd just assumed they were just there for style or something ๐

Just realised that #Pixelfed's default terms don't let me "attempt to decompile or reverse engineer any software contained on Pixelfed's website". Is this necessary if Pixelfed is already #OpenSource?
(As seen for the terms of pixelfed.social and metapixl.com, among others)
@dansup makes sense I guess given how much energy you're already putting into everything. I usually avoid pulling from GitHub, but I'll make an exception in this case (I'd have volunteered to help with mirrors but have too many other commitments at the moment)
What GitHub features do you use besides the basic ones (pull requests, issues, wiki)? In case y'know something becomes stable enough later. I wonder if in future it'd help to have a common forge for any/all ActivityPub projects :fedi:
@dansup that's fair, but let me rephrase: GitHub is a centralised platform controlled by a single entity, and we do have decentralised (soon-to-be-)federated alternatives like #Forgejo. Any reason you haven't decided to switch over?
(I assume you've thought about this before)
@dansup ooh I was hoping for something like this! I prefer other languages but have come to the understanding that PHP is good when you want something that anyone can easily deploy anywhere (even without a full-blown VPS)
@dansup why GitHub though?
Getting ready for my first long (2 days) outing carrying #Mobian on the #PocoF1! :debian:
Battery is at 99% and I'm keeping it plugged in till I leave, in about 15 minutes. Also carrying a power bank as backup ๐
I'll be updating more on this thread as things progress, now that I can ๐๏ธ
Where I'm going: to participate in the @prav related panel discussion at #FOSSDay in #Palai, #Kerala :xmpp:
Okay so basically the @prav project is meant to make it easy to get people onto federated messaging with #XMPP (which is kinda like #ActivityPub, but for private messaging). We use phone numbers to sign up, but unfortunately those phone numbers get exposed to anyone you talk toโso we want to optionally let people set a different username instead ๐ต๐ผ
I managed to find a firm willing to do it, but for a fee...which you can help fund here: https://prav.app/donate/custom-username ๐ฐ
The #Prav crowdfunding campaign I'm helping to set up has just crossed the halfway mark but I've been so busy setting it up that I haven't even posted about it yet!
Well, I guess that's a good place to be ๐คช
*watch this space for more*
@shaknais @RicoElectrico "you can't change the location of the map download server" has now been changed to a new antifeature called "Tethered Network Services", as per this:
https://f-droid.org/2024/07/25/twif.html
It refers to services that are centralised but open source, and it isn't autoblocked like "Non-Free Network Services would be"
From the PR it looks like Organic Maps has both Tethered (which is fine) and NonFree (because of the kayak thing, and which will cause it to be filtered out by default)
@evan ouch, I should've seen the clarification before voting; like a few others I started thinking of the Fediverse logo :fedi:
I think the ActivityPub logo is cool; we should probably use it more so that more people remember it exists ๐
(my "Qualified yes" should've been a "Strong yes")
@evan I vaguely knew such things were there (especially when I see a lot of people adding `feat:` to the beginning of a message) but I've never bothered to investigate further :git:
I do put effort into making sure my commit messages are descriptive (even in the title); in fact I've often realised during this process that maybe some changes don't belong in the same commit. But if you asked me to describe them I'd guess my messages were more "fun, literary vibes" than "formal, structured" ๐คช
@evan well, Israel's going to have to answer for that (and Russia I guess...although that would be more "continue to answer"?)
@Jennifer @racingdaily @aral wow, the US really doesn't care for justice huh ๐ฎ
@evan already recognised, and they even had passports and international relations and everything so my question is why did they ever *stop* being recognised?
@cybeardjm haha I'm going to start using that phrase now ๐
@evan correction: never mind, it's working normally only.
The link in your bio, which I originally tried, is https://prodromou.social/evanplus which has a typo. It should be https://prodromou.social/@evanplus (with an @). This is an interesting idea though; never thought of using locked accounts in this way! ๐
@evan @evanplus ooh nice! How do you implement this? Is it just a manual follower-approve or is there more magic going on?
I tried opening the evanplus profile on prodromou.pub and it gave a "page not found" error (I'm not a subscriber or anything)
@evan I only see the poll for one bracket. Is it a "one poll a day" situation with a grand score-off on the fifth day? ๐
@evan actually, I voted for tabs. Did you mean windows or tabs? It's 1 window for me (as opposed to 6 tabs)
