My father in law was an electrician. He set up a hot wire next to the bird feeder to shock the squirrels. The squirrel somehow managed to get caught on the wire - burned up. End of that experiment.

I doubt there is much "truth" in that story.

I'd trust a source like this before the WSJ
    https://www.populationpyramid.net/russian-federation/2023/
You can go back a couple years to see the total population & the numbers in each band.

    Compare that with
    https://www.populationpyramid.net/ukraine/2023/
which shows a huge drop in total population and in the ages most likely going to war.

      Roseanne Barr
Roseanne Cherrie Barr (born November 3, 1952) is an American actress, comedian, writer, and producer. She began her career in stand-up comedy before gaining acclaim in the television sitcom Roseanne (1988–1997; 2018). She won an Emmy and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for her work on the show. Barr became a stand-up comedian in 1980. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, she gained fame through her role in Roseanne and other performances. She sparked controversy when performing "The Star-Spangled Banner" at a nationally aired baseball game on July 25, 1990. After singing the anthem in what many perceived to be a deliberately disrespectful manner, she grabbed her groin and spat. This performance was met with condemnation from baseball fans and sportswriters, and was called "disgraceful" by then-President George H. W. Bush.Barr has been active and outspoken on political issues. She unsuccessfully sought the Green Party's nomination for president in 2012, losing to physician Jill Stein. Later nominated by the left-wing Peace and Freedom Party, Barr received nearly 70,000 votes for president in the 2012 presidential...

Only 2% have saved at least $1M for retirement
    https://www.newtraderu.com/2023/12/07/only-2-of-people-have-hit-this-money-goal-why-it-matters/
I'm in that group - mainly because I had a great salary & saved for years. I don't spend a lot (yet) in retirement so it will continue to go up a while.

BUT - if you are in your 20s - don't believe the claim in this story that saving $210 a month is enough for your retirement. You will need $5-10M to be the equivalent in the 2060s. I would start at $100 a week or so if you can make it happen.

Sure - well, maybe you wouldn't feel the rocking.

Let's say you in the hammock weigh 10x of the baby in the machine. So an appropriate lever would move your hammock 1/10th of the distance of the baby rocker.

    https://www.manhattancontrarian.com/blog/2023-11-30-no-amount-of-subsidies-will-ever-make-a-windsolar-electricity-system-economically-feasible
In brief, Germany has roughly 2x the capacity in wind & solar power. Uses roughly 58.3GW per hour & 126.7GW in capacity.

BUT - actual use of wind/solar is only 52%. They need huge amounts of storage - not addressed in various reports.

Yeah - they have done that for years now. There are slight differences between the two games - like some unique Pokemon in each game.

IGN has a long story listing the differences

I had two boys so we would buy both anyway so they could swap between games and get more Pokemon.

      JOVIAL
JOVIAL is a high-level programming language based on ALGOL 58, specialized for developing embedded systems (specialized computer systems designed to perform one or a few dedicated functions, usually embedded as part of a larger, more complete device, including mechanical parts). It was a major system programming language through the 1960s and 1970s. History JOVIAL was developed as a new "high-order": 1  programming language starting in 1959 by a team at System Development Corporation (SDC) headed by Jules Schwartz to compose software for the electronics of military aircraft. The name JOVIAL is an acronym for Jules' Own Version of the International Algebraic Language; International Algorithmic Language (IAL) was a name proposed originally for ALGOL 58. According to Schwartz, the language was originally called OVIAL, but this was opposed for various reasons. JOVIAL was then suggested, with no meaning attached to the J. Somewhat jokingly it was suggested that the language be named after Schwartz, since he...

The worst code I ever saw (twice!) was a symbol table built as an unsorted list.

The first time was in the early 1980s in a VAX program to process the user usage logs. The unsorted list performed poorly with over 1000 active users / month.

The second time was a Jovial to Ada translator. Worked OK until I fed it an F-16 program that had a LOT of symbols. Over 3 CPU days - still did not finish. After recode to a hash table - done in under 15 minutes.

I am aware that you can still make emergency calls with cell phones w/o service as long as a SIM card is still installed. (and that it's still compatible with the cell service - it can't be TOO old)

That you are getting an amber alert is news to me. Maybe that is a "feature".
