   The Manhattan Contrarian uses some data from Germany to reinforce his point about how wind / sun power isn't economic

   In brief, Germany has roughly 2x the capacity in wind & solar power. Uses roughly 58.3GW per hour & 126.7GW in capacity.

   BUT - actual use of wind/solar is only 52%. They need huge amounts of storage - not addressed in various reports.

     @mhjohnson its fucking retarded. Central America, Australia, the subcontinent and south east Asia are the only places that should be putting in solar panels. That’s a lot of people getting clean electricity some of the time. But Germany is thousands of km too far north for sensible solar power.

     Southwest North America does fine with solar. It's just so desolate that there's no grid to feed into...

     @sir_vito @mhjohnson there’s plenty of places with sunshine where grid solar makes no sense, like Africa and the Middle East. And none of that moves Germany any closer to where the sun shines.
