I have heard some people argue that #Russia is justified in attacking #Ukraine because the West agreed with #Gorbachev that it would not expand #NATO into the Iron Curtain territory and Ukraine is "the final straw" after all the others already joined NATO.
So?
When Yeltzin took Russia out of the #USSR, the USSR ceased to exist and any agreements with that entity were rendered null and void.
The bad person with a gun wasn't stopped by a good person with a gun. The violence stopped when the bad person with the gun stopped the bad person with the gun by turning the gun on themselves.
As Lord Dampnut antagonises literally every trading partner in the world, nobody could possibly have foreseen that it would lead to the other 7.9 billion of us looking for better relationships elsewhere, right?
A school yard bully remains "successful" as long as each victim keeps to themselves.
Such a bully often feels hard done by, and proclaims loudly how UNFAIR the world is when the people he's bullying suddenly get together and gang up on him.
But calling it a "conspiracy" is a new level of hilarious.
Having said that, between Xi, Putin and Kim you got quite the shower of bastards there "conspiring" against Lord Dampnut
1. Every browser needs to, by default, be set to allow "strictly necessary cookies" only. 2. Every site that wants to serve EU users must honour this setting. 3. Impose massive fines on sites that don't do this or that choose to interpret "strictly necessary only" in "creative" ways.
So that anybody who does not want other cookies has to do exactly nothing to achieve that.
@dcoderlt well in fairness even Germany was eventually welcomed back to "the world". After an unconditional surrender, the Nuremberg trial and 44 years of being split in two.
In Russia's case they should leave Ukraine. ALL of Ukraine, including Crimea. And then make reparations for the damage and hurt they caused. And that's barely enough for starters.
But after something like that, sure. We can't hold a grudge forever.
@dandylover1 I always try to add Alt Text ... and I just discovered that on Pixelfed you can switch on a setting that forces you to add Alt Text. Great idea so I've turned it on on my Pixelfed account.
Yeah I'm an #ignostic and as such I'd have no problem with anyone calling me an #atheist but I reject any #ideology even if it's based on or if it embraces an atheistic or non religious world view.
Ideology is the problem. ANY ideology. Ideology is the rejection of the way the world really is in favour of how you believe the world should be.
Yes, of course, embrace points of view based on empathy and compassion but NEVER reject reality. That way lies madness.
@Radical_EgoCom they combine some aspects of socialism with a form of capitalism that is fettered by regulations and laws to avoid their worst excesses.
I'm not suggesting throwing the "socialism" baby out with the bathwater. I always vote socialist because it's the best that's on offer. But I am hoping we can think of something even better.
@Radical_EgoCom Nordic Countries are a good example as to why purely ideological socialism isn't enough. On top of that, Norway has the luxury of sitting on an enormous store of natural resources that it, as opposed to many other places, has exploited carefully.
I would consider Cuba and Venezuela and the likes "failed states" but I accept that a lot of that is due to USA led sabotage.
This also means that we need to start valuing #technology that can help divorce economic progress from the efforts of individuals' labour, but that means we need to find a way to redistribute wealth equitably. #socialism and #communism have been tried and failed. We need to embrace that reality while continuing to search for something better. #ideology has failed. Now what?
We need to learn how to value more than the fruit of a person's #labour if we want to make #progress . In #capitalist and right wing societies that leads to exploitation, but even in #socialist and left wing societies a lack of freedom to give expression to one's identity and to be valued for it regardless of one's "economic output" will lead to a disenfranchised, cynical, hopeless and apathic population. We need a new political paradigm to fix this. I can't do that alone. Please help.
One way to stave off a #malthusian disaster is to reduce fecundity but all current political frameworks from #communism through #socialism, #liberalism, #capitalism to #farright ideologies are all focused on benefits gained through labour. To avoid a #geriatric holocaust we need to divorce economic progress from individuals' labour, foster self actualisation through art and other non labour focused human self expression so that even those who cannot / can no longer work can benefit. Any ideas?
Dutch Italian living in Ireland. Ignostic (no typo) atheist. Epicureanism and equality for all. Code monkey but I'm not just doing it for the peanuts. Science nerd.
