Just finished watching the first episode of Star Wars - Skeleton Crew! Such an awesome show for both kids and adults. It's like Rebel One meets The Goonies! I highly recommend it. #starwars#disney
@aardvark@quinn@ianb@damien@Edent I would say it’s essential. News organizations are utilizing resources when they have a social media presence. It’s not “free” to them and participation on any social network comes with risks. They’re going to invest their time and money on those social networks where the analytics tell them they’re benefiting most from. The benefit of being on Mastodon is not clear to them.
@damien@aardvark@quinn@ianb@Edent I agree with that. I personally, don’t mind Mastodon being a little more niche, less mainstream. I see more potential for Threads users to crossover to Mastodon as they learn more and more about the #Fediverse. This includes the news organizations already on Threads.
@jwildeboer@JustinH@jautero Yes, it’s interesting to see Bluesky take a hybrid approach over centralization-decentralization. They have the potential of utilizing the best of both systems as well as the worst of both systems. At this time, Bluesky’s future is highly dependent on who or what group is in control of the wheel.
@jwildeboer@JustinH@jautero Jan, I suspect that’s a placeholder for complying with German law in case something isn’t covered under global moderation tools.
@jwildeboer@JustinH@jautero Looks like the “German version” is doing nothing at the moment. It would have labels on that page if it did something. As far as I can tell..not an expert.
@JustinH@jwildeboer@jautero Bluesky too has put a lot of thought toward moderation. Both Mastodon and Bluesky are similar in that they’re light on algorithms and when in use are voluntary. Threads on the other hand despite connecting to the #fediverse is a bigger “cesspool” in your feed magnet due to relying on Meta algorithms. I plan to drop my Threads account once they have enough ActivityPub features to allow me to fully engage desired accounts via Mastodon.
Bluesky has basic tools moderation tools you would expect (block, mute, warn, etc) you would come to expect. But they also have a labeling system (both official and allows for third-party) that allows users to report on users/posts. For instance I can use a third-party labeler to block Broncos fans (for real). All of this is voluntary for the user to use or not use. Basic image below. An example of “advanced” is Bluesky’s own: https://bsky.app/profile/moderation.bsky.app
I recently replaced a 55-inch TV in my house with a 65-inch one. It amazes me that some still consider it small and recommend getting a 75-inch, 85-inch, or 100+ inch TV. Coming from a 19-inch black and white TV in my youth...I never imagined TVs like these.
For the past few weeks I've been crossposting between X, Mastodon, and Bluesky then following up on each platform personally. So much more interaction on Mastodon and Bluesky compared to X. 1/2
