The bicycle analogy was always misleadingly incomplete. Bicycles are almost useless without roads. Even a mountain bike won’t go very far without a trail.

Somehow I have a suspicion that the original concept behind FOSS wasn’t to become the bedrock foundation of surveillance capitalism. -

I really tried to like video games, several times, because the technology is definitely cool. But the stories and objectives are almost always so unbelievably dumb, and often militaristic glorification as well, they make 1940s men’s dime novels look like literature. I just can’t even begin to take them seriously. -

A while ago I bought some pre-packaged gluten-free pizza crusts the GF specialist company Schär. They were sweet, and not just a little bit. Revolting. What kind of monster... -

Yeah, but Brutus contributed $1m to the inauguration fund, Marc Anthony is running DOGE and Cleo is in charge of intelligence. -

America lost its democracy when it didn’t stop gerrymandering and voter disenfranchisement and suppression. Everything happening now is just the logical consequences. -

Which is why he bought Twitter. And it worked. Most billionaires buy a congressman or a senator. Musk bought the president and the whole damn government. -

I grew up in a small village in Greece that has the misfortune of being the most beautiful village on the islands. The tourists are like an insatiable swarm of locusts, treating everything and everyone as their own personal playground with servants. They have sucked the culture and humanity out of the place, shitting it out as plastic garbage. -

The German constitution, created after WWII in full awareness of how the Nazi apocalypse happened, includes an explicit provision for banning parties that threaten to overturn democracy at the ballot box. Ironically and tragically, the coalition leading SPD party is doing everything it can to resist implementing this provision against the fascist AfD. -

Basically, you can only be sure you can trust an LLM answer if you already know what it should be. Which kinda sorta reduces the value of the exercise just a teensy weeny little bit. -

In a local art project schoolchildren were shown photos of town buildings and were asked to color over them. The results were then projected onto the actual buildings at night.

For a book I'm working on I'm looking for someone with experience of telephone exchange switchgear from the 1950s. Basically I need to know what options an exchange operator would have had for listening in to calls he/she had connected, and how it would have worked physically.
