We can no longer have both #privacy and technology in our homes.

#Tech has merged with the #internet which has merged with #socialmedia which have all become profit-driven #corporations run by #billionaires

As a result, the average person can no longer take all of the precautions & actions required to live a life of #security and privacy in the #digital age.

So which do you prefer most: your tech or your privacy?

@jbburd @aral exactly. Which is not what Israel is doing. If they were, #gaza would’ve been annihilated on the 1st day of the retaliation. Nor would #israel have warned Gazans to evacuate.

It’s worth remembering: there was a cease-fire until #Hamas, an organization that explicitly states that it’s genocidal, massacred over 1200 Israelis and took over 200 hostages.

Targeted Military retaliation doesn’t = genocide no matter how folks insist it does.

Both those folks are loathed by a massive majority of Israelis. Most simply want peace and have for 75+ years.

I’ve pretty much had it with anarchists, and how – despite not believing that any nation should have the right to exist – seem to focus all of their attention on #Israel. It is a poor excuse for a philosophy and, in practice, #antisemitism

There is no solution I know of that makes sense more than the #Fediverse for giving people safe communities of like-minded humans AND also providing access to those outside the local server.

And there’s no algorithm or ads?!? It’s a win-win-win-win!

#Threads is owned by #meta who have always been worse than #twitter at #contentmoderation

Why anyone remains on #threads or #x at this point is odd to me. Why? Because I think we risk our emotional safety (& #privacy ) on ANY social network - especially those run by a #corporation or #monopoly.

I’ve been on the #Fediverse for about a year or so now and have found it a welcome surprise. Kind engaging folks, even when disagreeing.

Whole Foods, owned by Amazon, now has biometric handprint scanning to pay for your groceries.

When I expressed my concern, the feller behind the counter said, “It’s just like the biometric scanner on your phone…”

“Um, no, it’s not,” I replied. “Because THAT biometric data is on MY device, not yours.”

He shrugged in response.

I don’t advise you to go this route, friends. Not until there are more legal standards and protections in place to protect consumers.
