Good day #Fediverse. Can anyone help with evidenced information for data gathering practices in #Mastodon? I need something I can use in an academic paper to justify that Mastodon does not collect personal data, track interactions or monitor platform instance users in any way for commercial or any other purposes. I hope this is true and that I can justify it. I know that users & posts are tracked/counted bc of @fediverse stats sharing but thats anon data
Every time I try to access unsent posts in #Moshidon it crashes. Is anyone else getting this problem? Megalodon doesn't do this but the UI is slightly different.
@BeAware Im not saying Ive received any behaviour I would consider bad enough to 'report'. Its not about that, its a mindset. I dont get why you think not recommending Mastodon would help, tbh its the only app to recommend to ppl who come off Twitter. I know fedibros wont like that, but there you go.
- Why is it so difficult to sign up for a Mastodon account? We really need a way to simplify this for ordinary users!!
- If you mention Mastodon on the fedi, why do you get chased down by a fedibro telling you to [insert any issue about the real fedi] yadda yadda? Give us all a break, please.
- Why do people think of socmed as a kind of personal branding? We need to help them get over that.
I wrote a post about us, the Internet people. All of our hacky piratey DIY fixing and code snippet *borrowing*. I'm an ex muso and I think a lot of us from that early gen x generation did the tech pivot from the mid 90s on so we all built the Internet, it's ours. The Fediverse is so much a part of that alt culture, and so much a part of where at least some of the Internet future is headed. #fediverse#internet#webdev
@clacke OK. I may split the links and share as separate comments if you don't mind, so others can see. Very cool to share the original research, and how old the twitter thread is especially.
Creating a city for all of us: a role for the Fediverse in archiving civic urban memory. A preprint on SocArxiv of my paper (Trevor Norris co author) on how the Fediverse could help to create instances of urban civic memory archives using place-name/geocoded posts and instance cache archiving. technically a laymans view (me!), but feedback on technical or other aspects gratefully received :)
Do people know about the Zotero group, the 'Fediverse Observatory'? Its a long list of relevant information and sources that mention Fediverse related stuff. Check it out.
Today I will be posting thoughts about Aaron Swartz, who died on this day in 2013. The academic community should be much more aware of him, and challenge the massive problem of academic publishing that we are all part of. Let's make it our mission to tell people about Aaron and what he stood for.
I dont want to be an annoying moaner, but please please please @dansup I know youre busy being brilliant but can you get a friend to correct the url for the og image property so I can tell all my FB friends how great pixelfed is when I share my photos?
Tech society posts and shares from Dr Pen, Digital Media & Humanities academic based in Malta, from London. Late bloomer, a bit pithy. #UserExperience #UGC#DataSociety #DigitalSociety #SmartCities #webdev #Fediverse #openeducation World Citizen
