    > I think the issue is that more people need to test against -next.

Avoiding "this might eat my data" fears for the testers is very important detail here to realize that – having patches in there that come from a "unstable" branch is enough to scare people away when it comes to mm or filesystems.

So chancing that name might already help.

yeah, sounds like it; and bots could even process that mm-experimental branch, like they do for quite a few other subsystem trees not included in -next.

I don't think GNU/Linux et. al. make much sense, as these things change; but I think */Linux_(kernel), */Linux_(operating system) (which then refers for */Linux_(Distributions)[1], */Android, */ChromeOS, …) would make a whole lot of sense.

[1] for Debian, Fedora, Ubuntu. et. al. – I don't like that name much, but I'm optimistic something better could be found with some head scratching…

you and I might not like it, but for a lot of people Linux is not a kernel, but a operating system.

Not a problem per se, but I hope that at least wikipedia one day will learn this and make
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux a landing page that leads to two different pages (one for the OS, one for the kernel).

      Linux
Linux (, LIN-uuks) is a family of open-source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991, by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged as a Linux distribution (distro), which includes the kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Popular Linux distributions include Debian, Fedora Linux, Arch Linux, and Ubuntu. Commercial distributions include Red Hat Enterprise Linux and SUSE Linux Enterprise. Desktop Linux distributions include a windowing system such as X11 or Wayland and a desktop environment such as GNOME, KDE Plasma or Xfce. Distributions intended for servers may not have a graphical user interface at all or include a solution stack such as LAMP. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses and recommends the name "GNU/Linux" to emphasize the use and importance of GNU software in many distributions, causing some controversy. Because Linux is freely redistributable...

I was tempted a few hours ago -- but quickly decided submitting a rough patch myself is the way better approach. 😄
