@mastodonmigration I cannot imagine a scenario where the commercial sites DON'T go down the same evil paths Twitter did. Hell, Threads is already there-only a fool thinks Zuckerberg is their friend.
Mastodon is the option, period. Using anything else is to support the disinformation movement. If anyone still thinks having a lot of "followers" matters more, they need to take a breath and take a good look at what has just happened.
Looking for comets has always been my go-to activity when I feel like being disappointed. Going to a local park to see the current one-let's see if the streak continues.
@georgetakei My grandad taught me to drive a tractor when I was about 10. He made me learn reverse first, the idea being you have to actually learn where your tires are going. Parallel parking was never even a slight challenge, since it's just driving backwards. Most people aren't very good at reversing.
If someone struggles with it, there's no shame in practicing driving backwards in an empty parking lot or something. Learn to feel how the front end pivots around the rear.
@ai6yr I'll say it again (and no doubt will always do so)...look at the solar weather and band reports AFTER you spend time on the radio. Never before.
@JamesGleick Seems more likely that he would be pushed out of his ownership role at SpaceX. Which I would applaud loudly. Currently he controls 79% of the shareholder vote, but only actually owns 42%, so it's a remote possibility at least.
In our 2013 Ford, I have to stop the car to mess with changing the temp on the climate control, because the tiny touch sensitive areas are impossible to see and give no haptic feedback.
We just passed on a new Subaru, since too many functions are performed with a touch screen now, requiring eyes-off-road driving. This is bad.
We spent a century evolving dashboards that *worked*. Now we're mollified by shiny objects, and no longer care about function. Carmakers clearly don't either.
@ukuku We went for a 2019 Subaru, and all of the climate controls are old-fashioned knobs. Every last one of them. Everything you might need to fiddle with can be done without taking your eyes off the road. It's glorious.
