@andypiper I did a "delete and repost" with Tusky about 4 times earlier for something. I tend not to do any edits unless it's a typo though, or I've said something blatantly wrong - although even in that case I would prefer to post a follow up reply 🤷 I suspect everyone's different thought!
I was not aware that the good old #X11#xclock appliation was now in colour by default ... (The monochrome one on the left is the traditional one exported from a #Solaris 10 system that I'm using today!)
(And yes, I'm glossing over the fact that the Solaris machine seems to be in a time warp.)
@jwildeboer My generous interpretation of tings like this is that they've decided that "reject all" means they won't save the one that told them you rejected it. Which is somewhat broken. I'd probably cancel my subscription if this happened to me, but you're right about the "respecting your privacy" line being lip service instead of being meaningful ... Really annoys me too.
I've never got into instagram (although I did create an account years ago). Didn't really like anything about it, even more so once Facebook acquired it.
But @pixelfed is something I can get on board with and I'm going to give it a shout for something because I believe in it and want to encourage others to do so. Leading by example is the way we can win people across to the #Fediverse#pixelfed
Oh and one other thing. If the people you point at mastodon.social are the type of people who are reasonably well off, maybe also suggest the "If it's useful to you, give the people running the servers a bit of money to help with their costs" is a good way to help explain how this sort of thing can work in practice ... It'll be fine to pay less than your mobile, music or Netflix subscription ...
It's up to us, the users, to push it if we want to make this a ubiquitous system ...
In terms of the current wave of people deserting X for #BlueSky I think that extolling the virtues of decentralisation and the fediverse to the masses was never going to be a sane strategy. It's too complex ...
If we just said "Get an account on mastodon.social" It's be a lot easier to get people bought in. For those that might get it, follow that with "other options are available" and see if they care when they react ...
@andypiper If it was like our RyanAir flights over there I doubt it would have fitted in your bag allocation ... Unless it could be considered a neck pillow!
I'm still a little surprised there weren't a higher proportion of #Mastodon addresses on the #FOSDEM slides. Still lots of Twitter ones, and there still seems to be plenty of people only having email or LinkedIn referenced on their slides too. Each to their own - this is merely an observation based on the talks I attended 😀
The @PINE64#PinetabV is real and in my hands! Nice keyboard case with touchpad too. Hope I can get some time to play with it properly so it isn't just a door stop, although it came with a kennel installed on it which is more than I had expected 😁 #RISCV
@libreleah I can definitely see a use for this in helping Linux users make their scripts more portable too. Lots of people will write for GNU/Linux and then hit problems moving code to other other UNIX-based OSs because they only run Linux locally...
