If the tech says “you don’t have to wear a mask anymore” I’m going to jam a paper clip up his nostril and shove him near the electromagnets.

Seniors: ok, bye.
Boss: where are you going? We still have all these features to build!
Seniors: why should we hang around waiting to be replaced? You want to use AI, then go ahead - but we are gone. Best of luck.
Boss: but it’s not ready to replace senior devs yet! We just want to replace some junior positions!
Seniors: not our problem. Ciao.
And….scene.

Also governments: literal Nazis wearing full head coverings and firebombing hotels are a tricky subject. We will take a softly softly wait and see approach. We can’t be hasty - these Nazis have rights under the law.

BenderIsGreat34 (andymoose@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 25-Jul-2024 12:46:25 JST BenderIsGreat34 @MatWright they floated the idea of doing nothing for Covid after the first year passed, and realized that the vast majority were ok with it. This encouraged them. If this worked for Covid can it work for other pathogens and public health emergencies? Yes. Yes it will. And that was the end of 200 years of advancements in public health education and mitigation.

BenderIsGreat34 (andymoose@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 09-Jun-2024 04:26:02 JST BenderIsGreat34 @MediaActivist my experience whenever I’ve interacted with my UK colleagues remotely is that the call will sometimes start off with someone saying they are sick and that it’s was so-and-so that brought it into the office and then they all lol about it. No concern about it being yet another cumulative COVID infection, no one thinks to themselves “shit that’s me now in a high risk group of having a higher chance of dying of a heart attack or developing diabetes or cancer”.

BenderIsGreat34 (andymoose@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 09-Jun-2024 04:24:42 JST BenderIsGreat34 @MediaActivist it’s not much better here but if someone is symptomatic they will (usually) make some attempt at not infecting their office colleagues by not going in to the office. Maybe it’s 15% more taboo to NOT make others sick here. Maybe. Again, all very unscientific.

BenderIsGreat34 (andymoose@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 09-Jun-2024 04:13:59 JST BenderIsGreat34 @MediaActivist my unscientific findings are that people in the UK have bought into the “it’s just a cold” fallacy more so than other countries - I work with people in the UK (I’m in Canada) and not a single one of them ever so much as thinks about COVID. They just don’t care - getting sick constantly is now normal and expected and even a source of amusement for them.

BenderIsGreat34 (andymoose@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 24-Feb-2024 19:29:54 JST BenderIsGreat34 So, the 75 inch Amazon Fire TV is about half the price of any other tv of that size, presumably because it's constantly spying on your every move and selling this data to North Korea or something. Is there a way to remove the spyware? If it was used without connecting it to the home Wifi, and use an Apple TV + blluray player, would that work?

BenderIsGreat34 (andymoose@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 01-Dec-2023 05:49:19 JST BenderIsGreat34 @freemo @DavidM_yeg we had the vaccine passport thing here too (BC). But it was not comparable to actual lockdown enforced by the policy as in Athens. Here it was barely adhered to, businesses didn't want the resposibility of policing this, or having to deal with angry anti-vaxxers. I wouldn't call vaccine passports much of a lockdown. An inconvenience for some.

BenderIsGreat34 (andymoose@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 01-Dec-2023 05:44:33 JST BenderIsGreat34 @freemo @DavidM_yeg just my 2 cents here but "lockdown" is all things to all people. IMO "lockdown" is what my parents faced in Athens, Greece - they had to stay in their home and if they wanted to leave to go grocery shopping or for a walk they had to send a text message to a number setup for tracking these things. People would be approached by the police when out and it was literally a "papers please" thing.
