The denialism and utter contempt to what Covid can and will do to athletes should be criminal. Only 2 weeks ago the Tour de France belatedly introduced measures to protect riders.

@MatWright they floated the idea of doing nothing for Covid after the first year passed, and realized that the vast majority were ok with it. This encouraged them. If this worked for Covid can it work for other pathogens and public health emergencies? Yes. Yes it will. And that was the end of 200 years of advancements in public health education and mitigation.

and while we watch Covid rip through the Olympics, it continues to rip through our health systems - Nanaimo hospital is in a constant mess, LTCs are seeing staff drop in record numbers again, calling people back from holidays
If we keep 'treating it like the flu' as the Australian Olympic Committee unbelievably publicly stated, the fall and winter waves will be an absolute crisis

and finally, to underscore the utter normalization and serious malfeasance of public health everywhere - San Francisco wastewater signal is at or actually over a record, The Netherlands reporting a 14 fold increase of cases, not seen since Delta took hold in 2021, Greece advising tourists of a major wave and that health care may be limited
None are bringing back actual community measures, no major pressers or warning from governments - it's all a big yawn
