I'm going to stop using the term peaceful protesters. Obviously the protesters have been peaceful but I don't wish to suggest that their protest would not have been legitimate in my eyes if they were not peaceful. Powerless or defenceless protests/protesters would be better. The filth certainly wouldn't be trying to beat the shit out of them if they were sufficiently powerful.

I forgot to mention the southport stabbing took place this July and was followed by england-wide rioting in August. something to watch out for in Germany.

there is a sense of security fatigue. people who have the experience to know better are still resistant to personal search, still expect to be able to take suitcases full of personal belongings into spaces where there are going to be a lot of people.

even in here in liverpool people are incredulous at the enhanced security even after witnessing the consequences of spree killings on our community just this year.

i'm not experiencing security fatigue. Primo Levi's advice on fascism applies to so many things "it happened before, therefore it can happen again"

even if i was confident in the effectiveness of public security agencies (i'm not) even those agencies are encouraging the public to involve themselves in their own security and the security of others. I can't board a train without being exhorted to "See It, Say It, Sorted!" in relation to hostile recon and suspect packages. NACTSO and ProtectUK provide extensive training to anyone. If you work in hospitality, even a small cafe, it's quite possible Matrix have provided guidance on what kinds of suspect packages should be reported in order to reduce false positives and false negatives.

the current uk threat level is Substantial. or if you want that in english the next attack is when, not if.

the last uk spree killing to make the international news was the Southport stabbing, 30 miles from my front door. 3 children were stabbed to death, 6 more children and 2 adults critically wounded.

in the 20th cen the ira hit liverpool during 3 separate mainland bombing campaigns.

so security awareness has been a factor my whole life. i don't particularly think the thread is macabre, it's simply based on my life experience and the present situation.

one last thing before i park this thread. please if you're visiting any crowded spaces such as bus and train terminals, airports, christmas markets, shopping arcades, sports and music stadia, conventions learn to spot the difference between security theatre, and security.

if it looks like all they're doing is a theatrical performance be aware of the lines of attack. most spree killings in UK and EU will be rammings or melee weapons. entry points for ramming attacks are going to be via the entrance provided for emergency and police vehicles, or vulnerable barriers such as temporary block and mesh fencing. you want a solid barrier between you and the entry points.
