@inthehands You probably already know that in Germany and neighbouring countries (perhaps elsewhere in Europe too), it is common to measure "liters per 100 kms".
Apparently, Joe Manchin is now considering *re-registering* as a Democrat to run for president. The party he left a couple of months ago to become an Independent.
Also, just this morning, before Biden's announcement, Manchin said Biden should "pass the torch".
Turns out Manchin meant pass the torch to someone younger, like 76. 🤦♂️
Waiting for England supporters to blame India's semifinal venue fixed to Guyana for:
- Rain delay - England winning toss and choosing to bowl - Not having Moeen Ali bowl on friendly track - Conceding par or more runs to India despite two early wickets - Having to bat on the same pitch as India - Not having their batting rhythm broken by rain interruption - Two run-outs of their own - Spicy food
I'm sure they'll find more things. Like the bumpy flight back home.
(Comment on a BBC article about the upcoming USA-England Cricket match, saying American cricketers are not "proper Americans" but "plastic ones" because they are immigrants.)
@ColinTheMathmo machinations like that are not only against the spirit of the game but it is likely also against the rules of the tournament. Every team is expected to play their best eleven for the wicket condition.
With every ball bowled, fielded, and batted, players are expected to lawfully participate in a winning cause in that match, regardless of the consequence outside that match. To do otherwise would be tantamount to match fixing.
@ColinTheMathmo (a) All players named in the squad for the tournament are "top" from the rules point. But a team cannot *deliberately* select "weaker" players and *claim* to rest others. The deliberate part makes it a violation.
(b) "Giving the appearance of trying their best while not actually doing so" is also a violation. Though done to lose, such conduct is as bad as doctoring the ball or juicing the bat to win.
I understand your Game Theory point. Just that it doesn't apply to #Cricket.
@jtwcornell91 I haven't heard any official interpretation, but based on the official points table, it can only be that a super over win is considered a win, or USA wouldn't be ranked where it is now. If a super over win was considered a tie, USA would have had one less point than shown in the points table.
This is only for the purpose of awarding points. The official result of the regular match is still a Tie.
