In both cases we see: - Hype driven by companies and investors with vested interest in said technology - Grand predictions of the future and comparisons to disruptions like the internet - Obscure, complex tech that most people don’t use - Extreme resource consumption for tech to function - Fear and panic from media
If you give up on changing the “unstoppable tide” of whatever technological or social change someone claims is inevitable…. Then yeah. You won’t do anything to change it. And they will get what they want - no resistance.
@seachanger@oliphant and I’m very glad that the narrative is being proven wrong. Yeah, of course we’re jaded after how other social platforms collapsed… but if we accept that “nobody listens and nothing will change” then we’ve given up before we tried.
