@alex@PhenomX6 I loathe being compelled to visit a third party site when I'm doing #Fediverse stuffs, but when it comes to audio and videos, #Soapbox is one of the most capable of all Fediverse server platforms.
I can post a link to a podcast or song on a #FunkWhale server for example, and play it right here without ever having to leave my Gleasonator account - it handled such media better than pretty much any other platform, and even those that do accommodate in site viewing, Soapbox is much much prettier.
When it comes to YouTube, however, a trick i picked up in #Matrix, that also works in Soapbox, is to simply run it through a sanitizer like #Invidious.
Then i can play the video inside Soapbox.
This is handled automagically with #Fedilab if you're posting to a Soapbox Pub server.
@alex Today i find out having problem with #Pleroma / #Soapbox to find or follow #Pixelfed accounts. In search i can find "some" accounts to follow, but most of them just doesn't show up even by searching direct profile link... Do you know something about this?
Is this a broken #soapbox installation @alex@gleasonator.com or a bug? #Rebased is showing 404 error in #browser console when visiting empty #trends status page while other blank pages do not. For new installs, here's the page with error: https://www.example.com/api/v1/trends/statuses
ya know, at first i thought @admin might have had a slip of memory, but they are indeed running pleroma. #soapbox fe i think? ?
it confused me at first, but it’s a nice instance. but all of the posts i’m making is probably costing too much coinz. i hope to stop procrastinating and get my instance up near-term.
probably will run a single-user instance and sprawl aggregate accounts here at .tech although the fact you created bofh.social brings me back to my younger days. tempted...
@methodus@admin Ciao, lo sviluppo Pleroma ormai è congelato, gli sviluppatori si sono spostati sul progetto #Soapbox#Rebased a cui noi partecipiamo ? Si tratta di un fork più attivo
@alex Newb question: Are the Docs here https://docs.soapbox.pub/ for #SoapBox applicable to a very recent install that followed the install page https://soapbox.pub/install/ with Rebased? I was looking for info on how to best perform updates and backups, but some of that info looks to be for other types of SoapBox installs.
Character counts... Really? Well Indie, that's why I recommend that people get off of mastodon and onto something else like #Friendica or #SoapBox - #Fediverse is Fediverse and it's only the UI and the feature sets that differentiate between the various platforms.
I'mma leave you with a big list to peruse and explore. I gather you're a bonafide gearhead, otherwise you prolly wouldn't have stood up your own "mastopub" server ;)
I ran a small mastodon server a few years back, with about 1200 users. Took me a year to get everyone off of it so I could move to Pleroma at the time v1.0 was released. Everyone still supported OStatus at that time.
Haven't checked your IP so I dunno if you're using a managed hosting provider or if you're self-hosting, either way, good going ?
In the list below, there's a fully managed hosting service that does Soapbox, 5000 character count limits out of the box and you can change to whatever you like in your admin panel.
If you're self-hosting, then when you upgrade, know that you can switch to one of the more forward thinking mastodon forks with higher character count limits. I dunno which is which, I don't follow mastodon anymore.
So you say your self-employed, what sort of work if you don't mind me asking?
And my fav Bible verse of all time is Lev 19:10. What's yours, if you have one in particular?
You also say that you haven't celebrated Christmas in 20 years. Are you Jehovah Witness?
Yeah, maybe too personal of questions there, but I'm generally impressed when folks run their own instances, and your profile gives s join date of August, so that's well prior to all the shenanigan people fleeing positive changes over on that deprecated legacy silo. I typically lump them in withc the y2k chicken littles that thought elevators would stop working on 01 Jan 2000, lolz.
But no judgement there, yeah, well maybe a little ?
Well, at the risk of having bored you to death already, I'll close now, hoping to be afforded the favor of your reply.
Here's that list. I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
