"Farmers in the region have long viewed #coffee as a good way to make a living. Today the coffee industry employs more than 14 million people across #LatinAmerica. In recent years, though, #ClimateChange, pests and declining coffee prices have created a perfect storm that threatens the welfare of millions of producers and their families."
"The world’s supply of #coffee and #cocoa comes from a handful of countries. Vietnam and Brazil account for more than half of global coffee bean exports — and Vietnam has suffered from severe drought. Cocoa’s two biggest producers are West Africa’s Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire, where production shortfalls are causing unprecedented volatility and record-high prices" https://www.japantimes.co.jp/business/2024/05/09/markets/cocoa-volatility-coffee-market/ 🔸#Japan may find it difficult to secure coffee/cocoa supplies due to weakening yen. Back to locally grown tea?
The first of our #coffee plants are going in. After months of prep work, approximately 900 coffee trees of the Monte Claro variety will blanket this slope, between the cacao trees, native hardwoods and an endless variety of fruit trees that have already been planted.
You can't see them all, but this hillside is also planted with cardamom, long-cycle crops like ginger and turmeric, peruvian sun root, and medicinal herbs.
Taking advantage of the cleared area, Michael has also planted rows and rows of beans! The green bean harvest is coming on strong, and there will be countless kilos of dry varieties.

Doing a 5+ hour #Twitch stream starting a bit after 2PM ET for the players on our #horseracing#game as we watch, analyze, and discuss the #KentuckyDerby race card today 😬
I need to have a pot or two if #coffee on standby... 😂
We wanted to have a quiet afternoon and so we went to go to Kapej Coffee on the Brown Line. It is one of our favorite places in #Chicago with some of the best #coffee in the city. In fact, the owner was roasting coffee fresh in a little alcove off the counter.
