This is what actually happened in actual wars. In fact, the US nearly lost a carrier to this sort of shit. High command wanted to keep attacking faster than they could make new ammo and sent some bombs well past their expiration date. They bombs were leaking their stabilizers and many people raised concerns about it, but orders are orders.
