@latein @fiore @Suiseiseki @ecadre @tusharhero You don't understand. You have to write 20 additional tests for autotools to figure out if you are fully XDG Base Directories compliant and for the developers to write hundreds of lines of code in gnulib to cover for the slightest incompatibilities on systems you never thought existed just so they can fail at doing so anyway. -

@phnt @latein @Suiseiseki @ecadre @tusharhero tbf its better that gnu devs stop writing codr at all , if the kind of code they do write looks like that

@fiore @latein @Suiseiseki @ecadre @tusharhero I invite you to look at the most complicated hello world not written as a joke possibly ever: https://cgit.git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/hello.git/tree/src/hello.c -

@phnt @fiore @Suiseiseki wdym this is greatware
it’s as complicated as it needs to be to parse and process options, print hello world in any language, and allow customizing the hello message to keep true to the spirit of Freedom. can your stupid one-liner do that? i bet it can’t even print its own version and credit its authors
actually looking into it more.. oh god. GNU Hello 2.12.2. is that semver? major version 2? they had a breaking change? a breaking change in hello world? okay. the NEWS file mentions that GNU Hello used to have the ability to read your mail, using the -m option. then they removed this option in a minor release. a minor release? a breaking change? in a minor release? Okay. maybe this is not greatware

@grips @fiore @latein @phnt @fluffy @ecadre @tusharhero It takes at least 4 authors to write software as advanced as the typical GNU package. In conversation permalink -
