   This question is for people who still use the name their parents gave them. Do you like it? A lot of people, including me, say they don't like their name, and I always wondered if it's a thing like how no one's supposed to like the sound of their own voice.

     @Fragglemuppet I used to hate my name. Used to make a big fuss about it as a child. Now I don't love it. I'm not like what a cool name, but I definitely don't hate it. It's mine, I don't really think about it.

     @Fragglemuppet My birth name was Christine. I despised it for two reasons, the nickname Chrissy, although Chrissy Hyne is pretty cool. But then the car movie came out when I was 9.

     @Fragglemuppet I actually do. It's common enough that people generally know how to spell and pronounce it. Uncommon enough that I'm often the only one in the room. People don't unintentionally shorten it because there are no well-established nicknames for it. The thought of changing it has never crossed my mind. Thanks mom.

     @stephanie It was in fact how uncommon my name was that made me dislike it as a kid. When I changed schools and there was someone else in my class with my name it made me feel better.

     @Fragglemuppet I like mine :) It was a bit too popular when I was young (we were often three Stéphanie in the same class), but they were thoughtful about it - they wanted a name with a good nickname, and that was usable in French and in English.

     @Fragglemuppet I like it. My dad wrote a (nice) song about it when I was still a baby, so thinking about my name reminds me of the song, my dad (who is dead now), and the reason why my parents chose this name..

     @simon @Fragglemuppet People can mess up even the most common of names. Speaking from personal experience as someone who's been called Sampson, Simon, Samantha, and in one notably bazaar email, Smamuleel. In that last case, I assume...the...backspace key wasn't...working...or...something? You can see they tried, but...I don't even know!

     @Fragglemuppet You have A LOT of possible nicknames, which can be a good or a bad thing, I guess. Would you change yours if you could avoid the paperwork headache, or is Kate/Katie a good enough compromise?

     @fastfinge @Fragglemuppet I have a theory: If it's uncommon, people's brains short-circuit. If it's too common, people don't think about it at all, so they mess it up. If it's one of those names you only run across occasionally, people get it right because they're thinking about it, but it's low-effort.
     That's all I've got. I mean, of course people manage to get mine wrong sometimes, but it's rare for some reason.
     On the other hand, everyone tries to spell my last name with A-R at the end, not E-R. The other day I had to spell it six or seven times.

     It is in French so I wrote down the lyrics and made an English translation in the Alt-Text :)

     @Fragglemuppet I like my name, though it gets misspelled or mispronounced all the time. The best thing about it is that my first and last names both have five letters in them, I enjoy the symmetry. Also grateful UEB kept the ER contraction, would be so weird reading my name in Braille without it.

     @jonathan859 @fastfinge @simon Similar thing happened to me. In middle school I used to go by Kathy but never really liked it. When I joined Muppet Central there was already a prominent Kathy on the forum, so I started going by Kate. I forgot there was also a Kate there, lol, so that's why I said to call me Kate or Katie on here. A lot of places online I'm still Kathy Fraggle.

     @fastfinge @Fragglemuppet @simon Yup, especially if you misspell the nickname, cuz if you call me Jonny, then without h. Oh german people sometimes also put i instead of y but yeah.
     Funny enough I used to go by Jonny the first months or so I came into the blind internet community. Though at some point I shifted to Jonathan, and the numbers which stand for my birthdate to aavoid confusion.
