    I see a lot of good posts about the meaning of "sideloading" recently. I've been saying this for years. It's a bad word designed to control how people think about installing software.

    For more examples like "sideloading" you might enjoy GNU's words to avoid list. It recently got updated to include "artificial intelligence" too. https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/words-to-avoid.html

    Maybe they should also include "sideloading".

      @SuperDicq Send RMS an email, he answers every email. His reply will misunderstand or ignore what you said, but he will reply to every single one.

      @sun@shitposter.world I have personally never had any miscommunication issues with rms. I speak his language.

      @raccoon@hollow.raccoon.quest Parrots are actually very smart animals, smart than most people think. Comparing ChatGPT to a parrot is insulting towards parrots.

      @SuperDicq @Idoru The FSF did not in fact start the Replicant project, but it did start supporting it as soon as something free was usable.

      @Idoru@shitposter.world >BUT GNU, FSF and many groups are strangely silent on this fucking google news.

      The FSF is not reactionary. They already foresaw stuff like this coming over 15 years ago so they started the Replicant project, which is still very much relevant today.

      @SuperDicq “Trusted Computing”

      “Trusted computing” is the proponents' name for a scheme to redesign computers so that application developers can trust your computer to obey them instead of you. From their point of view, it is “trusted”; from your point of view, it is “treacherous.”

      Glorious. BUT GNU, FSF and many groups are strangely silent on this fucking google news.

      @Suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com @Idoru@shitposter.world True I guess, but my point, the fact that the FSF has already been doing stuff against Google's Android has been true for a very long time.

      @Idoru @SuperDicq There is so much digital handcuffing happening that it would take a serious amount of time to comment on each case.

      There are FSF and GNU articles that point out the problems and consequences of digital handcuffs, thus there really isn't anything further for the FSF to comment.
