  1. it was not in every tribe
  2. it was different in every tribe it was in
  3. it was accepted more or accepted less depending on the time period, I am not well versed but when I looked I found evidence that made it seem like it was never considered ideal for the people involved
  4. the concept that unifies all these different things is a modern academic construct not a thing that existed
  5. I'm not clear on how many drops of native blood you have to have in your veins before you genetically are capable of being two-spirit, it's quite amazing actually, a gender that only certain ethnicities can have or if you say you are it you are racist

  1. the strong gender presentation we assume is normal in western society isn't much older than the 20th century
  2. there's plenty of evidence that many indians hated the practices at various times too, basically indians are humans and are capable of acting on their own in "bad" ways before white people showed up

There were very clearly defined gender roles and hierarchies, and rules that enabled oral history cultures to avoid inbreeding and maximize genetic variance. It is still very evident in some tribes that held on to their oral traditions after the introduction of written language.

He grew up in Missoula, Montana. Gay activism Roscoe helped found the Lambda Alliance at the University of Montana, that state's first LGBT organization in 1975.
