Because it's dying. They always crank up the ads when it's dying.

@GaryBussy There's no reason to crank up the ads when it's going great. They crank ads way up when the people in charge of it can't think of another way to increase revenue, meaning it's back in the red. The ads get past the point where even normies start to get annoyed and they fuck off to one of the competitors. You can tell which competitors, because they have been pimping "Youtube Shorts" really hard.

@p @GaryBussy Sometimes can’t it happen when things are good, but they suspect things might get worse in the future so the extra revenue helps things not be as bad when the income dips?

@realcaseyrollins @GaryBussy Sure, if you've got to buy inventory to keep your business afloat. YouTube doesn't have that, and you never squeeze extra revenue at the expense of future revenue unless you're expecting the future revenue not to be there. Either whoever's in charge of it is short-sighted or they're trying to get blood from a stone. Unless something big changes, that site's gone in five years, and it'll get way worse before then.

Typically when things are going well the drive is to increase user share and engagement, which would be the opposite of more ads. Only when user base shrinks does management flip out about declining revenue, and inject the ads to try to make up the shortfall. Of course creating a vicious cycle of driving off more eyeballs, so needing even more ads etc....

My guess is the QE money dried up in 2023 and all these parasite CIA fronts were told they had to get into the black on their own.

That's when all the streaming companies pumped up the ads.

Even Netflix's 'profits' are a lie, they spend every penny making more shows to prevent the user attrition that rapidly sets in if the new content stops flowing.

      > 5/5 Insightful

"If we have seen farther than others, it is because we have seen this shit happen over and over again without fail."

      > My guess is the QE money dried up in 2023 and all these parasite CIA fronts were told they had to get into the black on their own.

It's plausible: October 7, 2023, was what gave Israel its pretext. So we pull out of the poppy fields in Afghanistan just ahead of Gaza turning to glass: Hamas did the processing and wholesale, and there's no reason to stick around if the entire distribution chain is going to collapse. This (and Chinese fentanyl) had to affect the CIA's budget.

      > Even Netflix's 'profits' are a lie, they spend every penny making more shows to prevent the user attrition that rapidly sets in if the new content stops flowing.

Yeah, and it's got to be (1) exclusive content that (2) people haven't seen. A lot of their new stuff has completely flopped. The Cowboy Bebop thing got my ex to cancel Netflix. (I had been banging on that door a long time but it wasn't until Netflix blew scat all over one of her favorite shows.)

But Netflix has started letting people play Fruit Ninja...inside Netflix. Assuming it's aimed at slowing attrition, it isn't going to help, I think: stupid "match the color" gem games are on the cell phone and Netflix is on in the background, some awful K-drama or whatever. Nobody's gonna ignore their kids to play Punch the Monkey on the big screen.

I think at some point, these conferences might shift to self-hosted Peertube. Normies don't usually roll this shit out so the big ones won't, but small tech conferences are run by hackers.

@p The QE money drying up is an economy-wide phenomenon. J.C. Slater predicted it years ago - the Fed ditched 'modern monetary theory' in the wake of the massive post-covid inflation. They cut off the money printer funding of profitless corporations because they feared another few years of 2022 levels of inflation and it'd be Weimer Republic downfall time. CIA was just one of the funnels through which the money flowed. Youtube is GOOG and GOOG is, of course, a CIA front.

I had not heard of Netflix integrating simplistic app games.
