     It's probably just a legend, but I heard Soviets went all-in on the autoloaders because command figured crews would eventually become too weak to manually load the shells while fighting on irradiated battlefields.

     kind of ass because a fourth crew member would be really handy if you want to detach tanks for individual duties (repair, watch, etc)
     soviet war plans released during perestroika showed they projected having to replace an entire european invasion force with the first 10 days due to radiation poisoning, so a low crew requirement could be good

It’s merely highlighting an existing problem, which is that we do not live in a society and we’re all just atomized individuals with no social networks to help each other out with even daily life let alone the sort of fun we’ll be in for if a major supply chain disruption occurs.
