@theorytoe @phnt @apropos @koen_hufkens @dagda I mean does the gitlab interface really do that much different other han changing the work flow into a github like one? -

@dcc @theorytoe @phnt @apropos @koen_hufkens @dagda Gitea feels lighter while providing about the same amount of features as gitlab.
As for what euther does offer over plain git web, comments and issues.
Having the whole pull/merge request, issue reporting and comments in the same interface offers a lot of convenience over the model of having a bugzilla and a mailing list for code submission, as you can have whole public threads about a commit and the linking of issues, commits and pull requests is more natural on a unified platform than having it split across 3.

@EdBoatConnoisseur @theorytoe @phnt @apropos @koen_hufkens @dagda For me at lest, not having to have an account to upload code seems better, and having a second platform sounds preferable. But thats not really here or there to be fair. -

@dcc @theorytoe @phnt @apropos @koen_hufkens @dagda For matters of archival a unified platform means that archival is mpre streamlined, tho archival isn't always important.
The account creation isn't so bad with gitlab as it has the feature where you can use you account and credentials from gitlab.com to create an account on any other gitlab instance, which is a far cry from perfect but at the time the solution was implemented it was better than nothing i guess.
On the Gitea side tho the work to add gitea federation is an ongoing one, as they want everything to be fully federated, comments, issues, forking and pull requests so you only ever need to register on one gitea instance and then be able to collaborate with any project on the network.

@EdBoatConnoisseur @theorytoe @phnt @apropos @koen_hufkens @dagda A federated git service sounds like a security nightmare.
